Foamy's stolen movie reviews.......
|
|
I've been a maniac, thanks to all your suggestions:
-- Little Miss Sunshine........ brilliant movie which I avoided
previously simply because of the title. A mistake.
-- American Gangster....... pretty good, predictable as hell, all the
stuff supposed to surprise was telegraphed and channeled
from the Godfather, from the car being blown up to the guy
popping himself to the betrayal of the cousin etc. No twists,
no surprises, and too many minutes waisted on nothing. Some
great 12 bar blues from the times tho.
-- The Waitress....... a fluff piece with nothing of subtance but pie recipes.
Andy was good but it's sad to see him getting so old. One of my
favorite actors of all time.
-- Michael Clayton........ an Erin Brockovich wannabee.......pfffffffffft.
-- The Mist......... pretty good [ probably would have been a better read ]
but it continually reminded me why I'm not a big fan of horror movies.
Without stupid friggin people doing stupid friggin things, there's no
horror.
There were a few others which were so bad I don't even want to think of them,
and I still have se7en, No Country for Old Men, Charlie Wilsons War, and as
backup in case the aforementioned stink, I nabbed a few all time favorites,
Guess who's coming to dinner, Inherit the Wind and The Old Man and the Sea.
One lousy game a night has turned me into Roger Ebert.
Jim

Nearly once a year I watch Braveheart. This time, I watched it with a dram
of (very peaty) Ardbeg single malt to give it a bit of smell-o-vision...

One I saw recently that was really good was The Bank Job. On the
surface it looks like your typical Pulp Fiction/Snatch wannabe, but
it's actually quite good. Has a bit of a political element to it as
well as the actual robbing of banks which usually makes for a good
movie on it's own IMO.

The real trick is to have either a Ps3 or X360 , its to the point that
I am
selling off my 600 DVD's becuase of this. It lets me store DVD's on my
PC
( 3 terra and counting ) and then stream is fully through my Ps3. 900
+
Movies all at a finger point using the Ps3. Its just awesome.
If you want to try something new , download Season 1 of Dexster to
start
with.
Warr
PS -- You trying out Age of Conan ?

Hey Warr,
What are you using for a DLNA server ? I'm doing this with my PS3 too.
The only server I found so far that was worth anything was Twonky, but
my trial expired. I think I might just drop the $40 coz I can't find
any copies on the ground. Any good ones you know of ? I've tried Orb,
Nero MediaHome, TVersity, and SimpleCenter. All of em sucked for me.

Use Windows Media Player ( whatever the newest version is ) Assuming
you have a copy of Windows that allows you to get this. I tried all
the others like yourself before going with WMP , its works great. Just
make sure you go direct to your router , wireless often has issues
buffering and then crashed out.
A tip for converting Video files. Use a program called
allok_3gp_psp_mp4_ipod_video_converter and Combined-Community-Codec-
Pack
The Codec should take care of any issues you may notice with the voise
being off from the sound.

The other nice thing about Windows Media Player ( besides being free)
is that you don't need to have it up and running. It just does it
thing in the background aslong as your PC is running you have access
to it.
