SBS-8 slower cores vs 4 faster cores?

I've never installed SBS on more than 4 cores, so I'm not sure how
benefit of having twice as many cores, or should I save the power and heat and just get them 4 faster

So if you possibly obtained two G5 1.6 GHz single cores, with some finagling, would it be at all
possible to create a dual core out of that? Would it involve different hardware or software

XP uses only one of the cores?

Just read in another post that xp runs only one of the cores, not both? How can we confirm
that XP is using both cores.
Any ideas?

Is CoreTemp /CPUZ/Everest supposed to show all 4 cores?
device manager reads the cpu as a q6600
... but for some reason neither program shows all 4 cores...
