Cannabis To Be Upgraded From Class C To Class B - Best UK Forums

The government state that they’re doing the U-turn on cannabis because of the use of the more powerful version Skunk has increased since they downgraded it.

What kind of messages does this send out? I know a number of people who use cannabis strictly for relaxation purposes and I submit that some of them are reliant on it as a relaxant. The thing that makes me hopping mad is that the government point a judging finger at people who use it, and then ignore celebs like Amy Winehouse and Kate Moss who use much harder substances.

There was a programme on telly recently which made a judgement based on certain criteria as to which drugs were most harmful. The criteria they measured were:- addictivity, mental and physical harm and effect on others. Top of the pile were the usual suspects - heroin and cocaine.

Next was tobacco and after that it was alcohol.

Way dwon the list came cannabis and surprisingly enough ecstasy. In a previous life I think I can safely say that I've worked my way through the most depraved drug list.

It wasn't pretty and it certainly wasn't clever.

But I think that it gives me a certain authority to say that when used sensibly (mild easy going grass smoked a couple of times a week) , cannabis poses no harm whatsover.

The irony highlighted in all of this is the fact that drugs like cannabis - to use the subject matter - are to be tightly regulated because of the dangers associated with the drug, yet tobacco which has proven short and long term health issues is still able to be purchased over the counter in any shop or supermarket.

Granted there has been a lot of tightening of where you can and cant smoke, and don't get me wrong I don't have a problem with smokers at all, but if they are upgrading Cannabis because of health concerns it appears a little ironic in comparison with the freedom of availability of tobacco.

I suspect another reason for the 'U-turn. Tony Blair had a pop at Gordon Brown saying that Cameron (Tory) would whup GB.

Then all of a sudden GB announces he's going to upgrade cannabis back to a grade B drug.

Now then...It was Tony Blair that was instrumental in getting cannabis downgraded in the first place (One of Tonys 'man of the people policies'). So did Gordon genuinely want it re-upgrading, or was it a pop back at Blair? The timing is perfect for the latter.

I guess more people die by the use of Alcohol/tobacco/over-the-counter drugs than actually drugs like Cannabis. "My private tragedy, which cannot, and indeed should not, be anybody's concern, is that I had to abandon my natural idiom, my untrammeled, rich, and infinitely docile Russian tongue for a second-rate brand of English (American English)."
