Kosher Food Becoming Chosen Food of the Unchosen People - Christian Forums
I figured you all may be interested in this:
For those of us who aren't Jewish, kosher foods, like Matzo-ball soup and gefilte fish, have long been relegated to half-understood punchlines in Woody Allen movies.
But that's all changing, thanks to America's increasing obsession with pure foods, and with a deliberate push by kosher-food companies, the biggest of which, Secaucus, N.J.-based Manischewitz, is launching a nationwide campaign to bring kosher comestibles to the other 98 percent of the country.
(more)
While I find this interesting, it's also a little misguiding:
The idea of kosher, in a world with so many health and product claims, is just and continues to have with consumers this idea of being cleaner, purer, better, and because of that, many consumers are looking for kosher foods and something positive, even though they don't keep kosher. If I'm not mistaken, I could live on a diet of nothing but Mountain Dew and Snickers candy bars and be 100% kosher without being the least bit healthy.

I notice a long time ago that most junk foods are kosher.
LOL
Many years back there use to be a commercial on Hebrew national hot dogs, the commercial went something like this;
“The USDA says you can put what ever you want into a hotdog, but we answer to a higher voice.
Hebrew national hot dogs” I have not seen much of a push for kosher foods in the past.
Publex is adding more Kosher foods I notice.

I have also noticed this trend.
My granny said something about watching this guy on TBN talking about keeping kosher and watching out for certain medications and foods because of how they damage your body;
And she's started investigating more..
On a Sidebar:
I shop with Publix...
Almost exclusively.
They're great for ordering products you can't find (because they don't yet carry it)..!
I can't stand the local walmart.
About the time you figure out where everything is, they decide to mix it up so you shop more.
I'm a "Get in and get it done, and race out" kind of gal.
I don't buy into that idea whatsoever.
I not only have to buy Kosher, but gluten free.
That can be such a worrisome hassle at times.
If it's not meat (like cereal or milk) I make sure it would fall within the biblical guidelines and get it.
Suprisingly though, I don't have to worry about a lot of it;
But the local milk place doesn't have Kosher certification;
Nor does the place my mom has to get meat for my dad (his corn allergies etc make it very hard).
I have noticed a few more people picking kosher foods;
But on the long haul;
Folks in Alabama have absolutely no care for keeping Kosher unless they are observant totally in the Kosher diet...
(and that ain't happening very often in "the ham")
Most the time If I mention I keep a kosher diet.
. . I get the look like I walked off of a spaceship from planet X and said "Hi, I'm ___

I never volunteer anything (at work) about my eating habits but it becomes obvious when we have office lunches and people see me eating only certain things or bringing only certain things.
When asked, I explain carefully and without coming across as judgmental or accusatory to anyone.
I go out of my way to make sure that my eating habits do not cause a burden on others but I do not compromise my convictions about eating kosher.
Amazingly enough, after the initial reaction wears off, I find many people respect my stand and some even try to emulate in some ways.
And as for people eating kosher for health reasons ...
That is good for us as it provides us with more resources AND it is further evidence that G-d's ways are the only ways.
