Lack Of Health Insurance Blamed For 22,000 Deaths - Christian Forums
Estimates have said that between 18,000 and 22,000 adults between the ages of 25 and 64 die each year because they don't have health insurance.

Hence why I support Universal Healthcare
|
 |
No way do I support Universal health care.
I haven't had health care coverage for 10 years, only because I can't afford it.
No one should have to pay my way.
Do I want to die because I can't afford health care, NO.
But the constitution never even comes close to saying anyone else should pay for my health care.
If health care cost were under control, maybe I could afford insurance or pay for my care.
The real problem is greed.
Many Drs. and others in the health care industry and not happy making a decent profit, but they all want to become, not just rich, but greed rich.
But that is the price we pay for our system, and I won't trade it for any other system in the world.

Health insurance and government interference are the problems.
If people paid their own medical bills they would care how much they were paying, and if the government weren't mandating astronomical reams of paperwork, and awarding ridiculous judgements, (to the exclusion of the real ones), good medical care would be within reach of more people, and charities could help with the rest.

I am not usually in favor of government intervention, but that may be the only way to fix this mess at this point.
No, the Constitution does not specifically say the government should be involved in healthcare and in fact makes no mention of any social programs.
Should the government not have any social programs at all since it is not in the Constitution?
The cost of healthcare is going up faster than inflation..the cost is getting prohibitive for many employers..they are dropping healthcare coverage..without increasing the wages for those workers so that they can pay for their own care.
The cost of healthcare is also squeezing the middle class..the most important part of our economy..and the cost of healthcare is causing our companies to be less competitive in a global marketplace..go ask the Big 3 where 3500 of every care sold goes to healthcare..it costs more for healthcare per car than the steel to make it.
Health care costs are also the number one reason for personal bankruptcies and over 75% of people who file bankruptcy due to health conditions actually have insurance that means most of those people are middle class..the poorest people have no need to file bankruptcy..because they have no assets to protect..these are people where.just some of the care has fallen through the cracks.
Simply leaving it to the free market isn't going to work anymore..we are past the point where that is an option due to the actual costs and the potential negative effects on our country i.e.
People dying..lack of productivity due to actual health conditions and the actual worry about getting sick and what will happen.
I am usually conservative, but as a practical problem, there is no other solution..at least any that would enable people to get a reasonable amount of car.
People can't shop around for MRI's or cancer treatments.
The cost savings of shopping around for procedures that people could ACTUALLY pay for out of pocket are minimal..things such as immunizations..flu shots.etc..but those standard general practitioner items make up only a very small percentage of healthcare costs.
I also do not believe it would be any more unconstitutional. The federal government is allowed to regulate interstate commerce..and health care definitely falls under that category.
And it would not bankrupt the federal government.
The money that employers are paying now would simply go to the government.
In fact, CBO and GAO estimates show that a single payer system would save at least 100-200 billion dollars per year.Studies by Mass and Conn have found it would save those states 1-2 billion per year alone on health care costs.
Having a single payer system would also drive down administrative costs which are about 20% of the total cost of healthcare in the US
I also wonder how we can spend more per capita than other countries and get the results we are getting?
I thought capitalism was supposed to bring down costs..doesn't seem to be doing so here in the US...in fact the main problem may be the fact that healthcare is essentially a public good that is being run as a capitalistic enterprise..and there is a monopoly on it.
There are no alternatives to healthcare..its not like if you can't afford a car you can take a bus or buy a bike..you either have healthcare and participate in the system..or you don't have healthcare..and possibly die a lot sooner.
The government is the only one that has coercive power and can take the necessary steps..the problems in our system are many.
The capitalistic nature of our system has created many excesses..doctors purchase expensive machines..these machines are cash cows..they are many more machines in certain areas than are necessary..the doctors need to pay for these machines and try to use them every chance they get.
Doctors also make a lot more in the US than doctors in other countries..partly because of med school debts.
Partly because we have a messed up legal system that enables people to collect outrageous sums for questionable cases.
That further drives up the cost..also there is the cost of defensive medicine..doctors have to go through extra steps just in case they are sued.
We also forget that we are already paying for the uninsured since no one is refused care in the US..this actually may cause is to spend more than actually covering them to begin with since they usually have to wait until they are in serious condition to be seen..if they had been able to go to the doctor sooner..it may have saved everyone money.
All studies have shown a single payer system would cover these people and save money.
The fact is preventative medicine is the best way to reduce costs in the healthcare system.t.he cost of the uninsured is why hospitals charge 5 or more dollars for a Tylenol..

The real problem is greed.
Greed has nothing to do with it.
Health care costs are increasing, and out of control, because we keep adding millions more illegal aliens eahc year who get free health care and who dont pay anything.
Each and every year that you add a couple of million more illegals getting free health care, the costs of health care must be raised for everyone else (i.e.
US citizens) who actually pay for their own health care.
I predict that as long as you continue to add millions more people/illegal aliens getting free health care to the already 20 - 30 million who currently get free health care that health care costs will increase.
Remember this - you heard it here first.

While I admit the illegal problem is VERY BIG, "greed has nothing to do with it?"????

Maybe we'd have more money if we pulled out of Iraq.
