All who believe the Bible will also believe the Book of Mormon? - Christian Forums

Are you serious? "THE BOOK OF MORMON CHAPTER 7 Mormon invites the Lamanites of the latter days to believe in Christ, accept his gospel, and be saved—All who believe the Bible will also believe the Book of Mormon.

About A.D. 385"

Wow..

If you get into the content of Chapter 7, it is speaking about the Lamanites.

But who are the Lamanites?

Can LDS identify them?

They aren't native Americans. BOOK OF MORMON, Mormon 7 9 For behold, this is bwritten for the intent that ye may believe that;

And if ye believe that ye will believe this also;

And if ye believe this ye will know concerning your fathers, and also the marvelous works which were wrought by the power of God among them.

I do believe the Bible, but having read at least a portion of the Book of Mormon I found it to be beyond believing.

Kinda like the Protoevangelium (sp?) of James that Catholics turn to to prove Joseph was old and Mary was always a virgin.

I can't believe that one either.

Actually, given the fact the Mr.

Smith lifted large sections from the Bible and inserted them into the BoM, it can be believed as far as that goes.

IMO the rest is third-rate nineteenth-century fiction.

(I'll preface this by saying that I agree, I personally don't see how someone can believe the Bible and not the Book of Mormon, but I don't question anyone's right to believe whatever they do.

If you haven't read the Book of Mormon and don't believe it, then that's another thing.) Originally Posted by Actually, given the fact the Mr.

What is your definition of large, that is, what percentage is also in the Bible?

(ex, Isaiah, beatitudes).

I come up with (roughly) 37 or so pages out of 531, or about 7%. The Nephites had the Brass plates, which appear to have had essentially the same writings as the Old Testament up to Zechariah's time, plus a couple books that the Jews removed, possibly (my belief) because they prophesied of a messiah who would be killed by the jews and one that would come in glory - so there's some quoting from those "removed" ones as well. The Isaiah chapters are Quote: d because they relate to our days and what's going to happen to us.

Then later Christ taught the people here the same things He taught the Jews - would we expect him to have forgotten? The Jews had the scriptures just like we do now, and did not understand them, and did not believe them, other than a small minority of the Jews.

Jesus explained the scriptures contrary to the common understanding at the time. John 5:39 39 Search the scriptures;

For in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

PhoebeAnn, you could also include the entire 29th chapter of 2 Ne. 2 Ne 29 3 And because my words shall hiss forth—many of the Gentiles shall say: A Bible!

A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible. ... 8 Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word?

Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another?

Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another.

And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also. 9 And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever;

And that I speak forth my words according to mine own pleasure.

And because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another;

For my work is not yet finished;

Neither shall it be until the end of man, neither from that time henceforth and forever. 10 Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words;

Neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written.

If interested, you should really read that whole chapter - I would have posted it all but I'm not sure yet how much is considered appropriate on this forum, and anyone interested can easily look it up. And you could include this: Moroni 10 27 And I exhort you to remember these things;

For the time speedily cometh that ye shall know that I lie not, for ye shall see me at the bar of God;

And the Lord God will say unto you: Did I not declare my words unto you, which were written by this man, like as one crying from the dead, yea, even as one speaking out of the dust? 28 I declare these things unto the fulfilling of the prophecies.

And behold, they shall proceed forth out of the mouth of the everlasting God;

And his word shall hiss forth from generation to generation. 29 And God shall show unto you, that that which I have written is true.
