False Prophets And False Teachers - Christian Forums

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.

By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words;

For a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

2 Peter 2:1-3 My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

James 3:1 The word of God is quite clear that false prophets and false teachring bring in destructive heresies, and bring on themselves and their hearers swift destruction.

Hence not many of us should become teachers knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

It’s very easy to become a false teacher just by listening to the words and voice of men rather than the Holy Spirit, who alone is the Spirit of Truth and our Teacher, Helper, and Guide.

God’s word is unchanging: Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him;

Nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.

For "who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

2 Corinthians 2:12-16

2 Peter 2:1-3 I understand the 'secretly bring in destructive heresies' but what does 'even denying the Lord who brought them' mean?

Maybe it means Purchased....as in, purchased them with His blood, but they are denying the very person Himself.

Just because one hears the very voice of God doesn't they will obey.

True prophets have to be very careful and guard themselves from pride.

I bet sometimes that when pride creeps in a prophet, the more satan's voice sounds like God's.

I am not a phophet (yet) so I really can't say.

I understand the 'secretly bring in destructive heresies' but what does 'even denying the Lord who brought them' mean?

Now if you don't believe in once saved always saved, then this verse makes sense, these reprobates denied the Lord who bought them with His blood just like Peter and Judas did.

But Peter didn't do it from the heart like Judas did so he was forgiven while Judas the son of perdition was not. Sons of perditions are damned to hell in fulfillment of the prayer that Jesus prayed in Psalm 109 and fulfilled in Acts 1 and confirmed by Hebrews 10: 109:1 Do not keep silent, O God of my praise! 109:2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful Have opened against me; They have spoken against me with a lying tongue. 109:3 They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, And fought against me without a cause. 109:4 In return for my love they are my accusers, But I give myself to prayer. 109:5 Thus they have rewarded me evil for good, And hatred for my love. 109:6 Set a wicked man over him, And let an accuser stand at his right hand. 109:7 When he is judged, let him be found guilty, And let his prayer become sin. 109:8 Let his days be few, And let another take his office. 109:9 Let his children be fatherless, And his wife a widow. 1:16 "Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus; 1:17 "for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry." 1:18 (Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity;

And falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out. 1:19 And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem;

So that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.) 1:20 "For it is written in the book of Psalms: 'Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it'; and, 'Let another take his office.' 10:35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 10:36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: 10:37 "For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him." 10:39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

Yes, some Christians, follower of Jesus, draw back to perdition while others don't!

I'd say the problem is we have to keep watch and take care that these false teachers don't deceive us, and also make other people aware that they really exist.

Jesus told us to beware of false prophets and false teachers amongst us is true!

But Jesus also told us : Mt 6:31 "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 6:32 "For after all these things the Gentiles seek.

For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 6:33 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 6:34 "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.

Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

But the verse you Quote: is about material things.

And btw, being worried and being watchful is quite different

Jesus told us to beware of false prophets and false teachers amongst us is true!

But Jesus also told us : Mt 6:31 "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 6:32 "For after all these things the Gentiles seek.

Perfectly ironic coming from someone who teaches wealth and prosperity and that God can be FORCED into doing things against His will

Originally Posted by Living Stone perfectly ironic coming from someone who teaches wealth and prosperity and that God can be FORCED into doing things against His will I'm absolutely certain God can't be forced to do anything, in or out of His will, by His puny creation. Having come from OSAS background, I really don't see that OSAS is a biblical doctrine.

By my reading, if you act like a son of perdition, then you are a son of perdition.

'Prosperity' is a biblical concept, but I really think that to do other than take God at His word is wrong.

I wonder what those Christians of the first century church would have thought of a prosperity message that said you can "Quote: the Word back to God and He must honor it".

Especially those who became Lion fodder. We can expect certain things of God, according to His Word, but I'm reasonably certain that while He is enjoined to care for us, He is not enjoined to make us all wealthy.

In fact, if I recall correctly James spoke out against those who are wealthy.

As John Wesley said, "One need not aquire earthly wealth to be rich"...or something like that.

Our money, over and above our basic needs should be put to the work of Him who gave it.
