Careful Legacies - sequel to Careful Thoughts and Careful Necessities - Topic Powered by eve community
Prologue Friday 11th January "08
How do people walk around without coats at this time of year?
Favourite, years old black wedge-heeled boots.
Tight, navy, figure-hugging jeans.
Black coat with fur trim around the neck and big hood.
Underneath a black shirt unbuttoned enough to tease without actually showing anything.
Dark brown, naturally sunstreaked hair recently cut, curling slightly to frame an elegant face.
Concealer hiding shadows under hazel eyes rimmed with a little mascara and thin eyeliner.
A black cap tilted at exactly the right angle without looking pretentious.
Five feet four and still size 12, now leaning against her car door, gazing up at the student halls.
In her car was a backpack and a note from an old friend.
An old friend she ought to have been visiting.
What would Georgia find in Hollyoaks now?
She'd left the small village many months ago.
It felt like years...
Her own life had changed too.
She'd left Hollyoaks for her tour of Italy, finally settling in her inheritance for the summer.
When the new academic year began she stayed in the Italian lakes, looking after business.
Sadly, things had turned out well enough for much company over the hot and stormy summer.
Jess wasn't able to visit, her own problems escalating, and Georgia hadn't heard from her.
She could only help now that it was too late.
But let's be patient.
We shouldn't give everything away just yet.
Her story after all.
And besides.
We must set our scene.
Preferably before it got dark and when things get even more interesting.
Already, in the space of five cold minutes she'd managed to eavesdrop on half a dozen conversations.
Stuff about bricks through windows, fishing underwear out of trees, management changes at the Dog, priests being too good to be true, radio pirates stealing Kris Fisher's slot.
My my, Georgia thought.
Do people not mind their business around here?
'Course not.
Finally she stood up properly, fished the car keys out of her pocket and locked it.
And started following instructions.
"I know all this.
But still... Because I'm listened to.
Because I walk around college and people are courting me.
Me, nobody ever talks about me unless they're taking the mick...
If we stop all this now then I go back to being a nobody...
But I know. And that means I'm not a nobody, no matter what people say...
Look, I am just a geeky space boy.
Nobody cares about what I think.
Nobody even wants to know me."
The most important things always seem somewhat stupid later.
The sun had set, and Elliot Bevan was surrounded by the effects of his personality.
All the things that made him a geeky space boy as he'd called himself.
He ought to have turned a light on in the room, to brighten things up rather than let the gloom seep into him.
The fact that Kris was loudly talking on the phone in the main room, yakking on about thr amateurs stealing his show, didn't do much to cheer him up: Kris' personality had the tendency to be oppressive at the worst of times.
Now he felt like he was being sufforcated in a different room.
Not fair.
Even more unfair was when the doorbell rang and Kris shouted at him to open the door.
"Why can't you get it?" He shouted back, muttering a few well used insults under his breath.
"Fine!" Kris yelled back.
Kris started yabbering again on his phone and then suddenly stopped.
"Elliot, I think you'd better get this one."
Elliot groaned, picked himself up and reluctantly slouched down the hall, glaring at Kris tiredly.
Kris just looked expectantly back somewhat oddly, completely ignoring whoever was speaking on the other end.
Shaking his head slightly to himself, he didn't even notice through the glass who it was.
So he was somewhat shocked to see who it was.
"Hey, E."
And thus it begins again.
Please review, anyone I used to know from months ago who's still around it would be great to hear from you!
Take care everyone xxx

Well this is depressing.
It's the weekend, barely anyone's in this forum, and the last post on it was over an hour ago.
What on earth happened to this place?

Chapter 1
Georgia stood there, a happy smile slowly twitching into amusement as Elliot stared at her with shock.
"Hey, E." She said.
"Long time no see..."
The moment she said that he gave a funny choking sound and scooped her up into a hug.
She laughed, wrapped her arms round him and squeezed him back.
And stopped laughing when she realised how relieved his hug was.
"Hey," She whispered.
"You alright?"
Finally he let go of her and put on a smile for her.
"I'm fine." He stepped out of her way.
"Come in."
She stepped inside, looking around the flat, amazed at the colourful changes it had gone through.
Wow, who did the decorating?
She thought. Then she noticed Kris as he finally ended his call in one of his typically rude fashions.
And, unsurprisingly, he wasn't anywhere near as happy as Elliot to see her.
"What brings you here?" He said bluntly, his face seemingly caught between being disapproving and amused.
"A mutual friend." Georgia answered, meeting his gaze.
The amusement vanished.
As did the disapprovement, in a manner of speaking.
"Jess?" He ventured.
Georgia nodded. Kris' eyes flew to the door.
"Is she here?"
Georgia shook her head.
Kris frowned. Where was she then?
"She's in St Albans.
She'll be staying with me for a while, until she figures out what she'd going to do.
I'm here to finish off certain things on her behalf."
Kris' eyebrow arched with dark intrigue.
"She didn't come back to do that herself?"
Georgia shook her head again.
"I told her better not to."
Kris snorted.
"And no doubt she didn't complain about that."
This time it was Georgia's turn to fix him with a arched eyebrow.
And Elliot got the pleasure of seeing Kris back down ever so slightly.
"How long will you be staying?" Kris asked.
Georgia shrugged.
"I don't know. As long as it takes." Her gaze fell on the sofa.
"Think it'll be ok to stay for a bit?"
Elliot got his answer in first, to his relief.
"Of course, you're welcome to stay as long as you want."
Georgia turned and smiled gratefully at him, whilst Kris glared at him.
Oh no, mister. You're not getting me down now.
"So.
Tell me: what's been going on since I was last here?"
"You've gotta be kidding me..."
Kris was in his room, Elliot and Georgia were sitting on the sofa with mugs of hot chocolate, slowly catching up on all the strange things she had missed.
All the strange dramas involving the Ashworths, the Barnes family, the McQueens, people moving in and out of the flat, all sorts of bizarre rumours.
She was relieved to hear that Hannah was out of rehab and seemingly doing much better.
Sad to hear about what happened with Craig Dean and Sarah, and John Paul.
And kept quiet about her opinion over what happened with Zoe, Jess and Darren.
That triangle she knew about already.
But what was amusing her now was Kris being dumped for O.B by Summer, who she hadn't met before.
Elliot had just told her about the time when Summer had thrown a bucket of water over their absolutely pathetic fight.
She started giggling, imagining it so clearly in her head.
She could also imagine how much a person like Summer would have enjoyed being fought over...
"Nope." Elliot chuckled.
"You wouldn't believe the look on Kris' face when he got back here."
They chuckled at the thought, then remembered that Kris was in his room and could be listening after all.
So they both went 'sssh!' at each other and giggled some more like a pair of kids.
At least one thing hadn't changed, they both thought: they still got on as well as they'd always done.
"What about you?" Georgia asked.
"What's been happening with you?"
He told her about his mum, and being, essentially, betrothed.
And felt the weight on his shoulders ease off slightly.
She gave him a sympathetic cuddle, not knowing what to say.
He wanted to tell her about the pirate radio he'd set up with John Paul, to tell her how great it was to be popular like that, even anonymously.
Except if Kris was watching...
"I heard someone say something about some new pirate radio station." Georgia said innocently.
Oh bugger. "Apparently they're really good."
"Yeah, yeah they are." Elliot said, trying to be equally innocent.
Oh god, not working...
"Hmmm." Georgia smirked.
"Know when they'll next be on?
I'm intrigued."
Elliot shrugged, increasingly growing uncomfortable.
But she just smiled, put a finger to her lips and took another sip of her drink.
That was quick...
"How -" He started, and then remembered that Kris was being much too quiet in his room.
"A hunch." She whispered.
"Jess told me a little about them, and I just guessed." She put her mug back down on the table.
"So," she said normally, "how's Zoe?"
Elliot shrugged.
"I don't know really.
She moved out of the flat after..." He trailed off with a look.
Georgia nodded, understanding.
After she found out Jess slept with her boyfriend.
"She's been staying with Sarah.
I don't know how long that's going to last now though.
Mrs Barnes went a bit...
Err... loopy."
"So I heard." Georgia said.
Elliot looked at her in surprise.
"Amazing how much gossip you can pick up by standing in one spot for five minutes in Hollyoaks." She explained.
"How's Darren?" Again Elliot shrugged.
"Hmmm. Going to have to see him, fix things there."
"Good luck with that."
"Indeed." She sighed.
Then she suddenly smiled at him.
She flipped his hat off and messed up his short hair underneath, chuckling when he feebly tried to stop her and get his hat back.
"Missed you, E."

I read both Careful Thoughts and Careful Necessities a while ago after stumbling across them and completely loved them so you can imagine my excitement at seeing this!
I love Georgia in particular, she's somebody I wish I was more like!
And I love her relationship with Elliot!
I can't wait to read more!

Chapter 2
John Paul had spent most of the afternoon sitting by himself on a bench, feeling like crap.
He'd be blackmailed into continuing an illegal radio show by Elliot, had stopped Elliot from revealing all and getting into trouble with Kris by getting into trouble himself, and had a drunken earful from Sarah about Craig.
And no doubt when he got back home he'd find Michaela making a prat of herself by flirting ridiculously with Kieran the hot priest.
Oh yeah, his day had been great.
And was going to get even better.
Ugh. He suddenly wished he still lived in the halls.
Just without being conned by Jess.
Who'd left Hollyoaks without a goodbye, explanation or indeed due apologies.
But someone who did now owe him an explanation and apology was Elliot.
So he picked himself up off his numb and freezing arse and wandered along to halls.
He knocked on the door, in dire need of a hot cup of tea, and rolled his eyes when he heard Kris shout out "someone get that!" Typical.
After a moment, Elliot opened the door, and John Paul got the rare sight of pure bliss before it quickly disappeared to something resembling the guilt that he'd expected.
The rare bliss was quickly explained when he heard a familiar voice call out quietly "who is it?".
He could ask the same...
A short, elegant, healthy looking brunette appeared round the corner, took a moment also to recognise John Paul before smiling.
"Oh, hey! John Paul right?"
Kris had been wallowing in his own self pity, trying to drown out Elliot and Georgia's happy voices.
But all he had to do that was his own bitterness at the fact that he was growing increasingly alone.
He'd been recently dumped just after the New Year, had at the same time barely noticed that one of his best friends - if he could really call Jess that - had left Hollyoaks, and even his own boss thought that an anonymous prankster was more popular than him.
Kris' ego could only take so much...
He wasn't particularly fussed over ending things - whatever 'things' had really been - with him and Summer.
She had an odd sort of charm, sweet you could suppose, but there was only so much he could take.
Too wrapped up in herself to really notice how other people worked.
It wasn't much of a loss, he just didn't particularly care losing out to O.B of all people.
A nice guy but...
Well. Dull.
As for Jess...
He couldn't believe she'd just gone.
Without leaving so much as a note.
Or without calling, texting, hell he'd even accept an email.
He didn't like it, but he missed her far more than he liked to admit.
He missed their bickering, their banter.
The odd denied feeling that she was an equal.
Admittedly that had died out a long time ago.
He’d been gone for too long over the summer holidays, and it all fizzled out.
And then her ‘affair’ with Darren happened and he had to choose sides.
Which got easier and easier as she spent more and more time with Darren.
He couldn’t say he could blame her for leaving as she had, he had an inkling as to why she’d left, what had finally pushed her into disappearing from Hollyoaks.
Darren had been a complete idiot, but he had been so into Zoë it made him even more sickening.
Which may just have finally turned Jess off.
As for his radio show… as much as he’d enjoyed watching Sarah lay into John Paul for being a… what did she call him?
Oh yes, a snake. As much as he’d enjoyed that, it felt like only half done business.
His senses told him John Paul was covering for someone else as well.
Just have to see who… Kris was going to have to learn patience, it seemed.
Well, good luck with that…
Hoping it'll work through quick reply, let's see, FOURTH attempt to post now...

Chapter 3
“Georgia, right?” John Paul could remember her dimly from absolutely months ago.
She’d been around over the Easter holidays, if he recalled properly.
She’d throw a great party with Jess, in much brighter days.
Craig was still around, he was with Spike, Hannah was still a long way off from the awful state she eventually fell into, Sarah had been in ignorant bliss.
So maybe not brighter days exactly, but… he’d felt slightly better about himself at the time.
Not that that’s saying much.
All he remembered about Georgia was that she’d been a laugh.
She effortlessly kept the party going through the hours, kept people talking, dancing, chuckled crashers out with startling power.
She had an odd chameleon quality he quite liked, for its benevolent character.
She could switch with ease from the sparkling, chatty, spirit of the party to a much quieter, observant, thoughtful and sensitive girl.
If only she’d been a bloke, had flashed through his mind at some point at the time.
Georgia nodded.
“How are you?” She asked amiably.
“Err…” Truth or not?
He flashed a quick look at Elliot, who looked more and more guilty by the second.
“I’m good. You?”
She nodded her head from side to side.
“Ok.” She suddenly smiled with amusement.
“I’m sure you can come in, you know.”
He smiled back and came in, Elliot closing the door behind them.
“Want a drink?” Elliot asked.
“Yeah, cup of tea would be good.” John Paul replied, following Georgia’s example and sitting on one of the stools at the kitchen counter.
“So what brings you back here?”
“Unfinished business.” Georgia said, mysteriously with a smile.
He raised his eyebrows, intrigued.
Behind him he sensed Elliot hesitate before putting the kettle on.
“Not mine, Jess’.”
“Oh really?” John Paul sat up.
“Which ones? She still owes me all the rent I gave her for Elliot’s room.”
She smiled and nodded.
“She didn’t mention that one, but I’ll work something out.”
John Paul frowned.
“Then what does she want you to do?”
The smile faded slightly.
“A number of things.” She nodded her head slightly to Kris’ room.
John Paul’s eyes lit up with understanding.
“Got quite a few things to do.
All top secret.” She chuckled to herself.
Then she changed the subject.
“How’s Hannah?”
“Oh, she’s alright, I think.
I don’t know, I don’t see her that much.
But she’s looking much better than when she was… you know.” Georgia nodded.
“We had a quick talk after she came home, she said everything was ok between us, so…” he shrugged, content.
Remembering it, it was a shame that they didn’t hang out more, in her better days Hannah had been a good friend.
Then he remembered the whole debacle with the Kathy Barnes.
“I think she’s a bit stressed out now though, what with the stuff Mrs Barnes was doing, pretty sick stuff that.
And I heard that she was pissed off with her brothers for not being honest with her, for treating her like china, or something, I’m not sure.
Just what I picked up on the grapevine.” Georgia nodded, understanding.
She was a good listener actually.
“Was thinking of talking to her actually.
Last time I saw her she was painfully ill, and I think just after I went her friend died - Melissa?” John Paul nodded.
“Well, that’s one thing I want to do.
For me, not Jess.
I wanted to see Zoë too, see how she is.
Jess wanted me to talk to her.
Evidently she doesn’t have the guts to.” Georgia chuckled bitterly, disappointment written over her face, and she descended into silence.
“How is she?
Jess, I mean.” Elliot asked.
He handed John Paul his tea and sat at the end of the counter, closer to Georgia.
“She’s alright.
She’s at my place in St Albans.
At some point I might be taking her back with me to Italy, if she wants.
If she does though then she’d better do something productive, I’m not taking her on holiday.” Georgia said, with a grin.
“She misses this place.
I think that’s why she wanted me to come up for her.
But…” She frowned, thinking over her next words.
“I think she misses how things used to be more.
Before -”
“Before she messed things up.” Kris interrupted.
He was standing by his bedroom door, leaning against the frame in his heels and thick eyeliner.
Immediately the whole aura of the room changed: on Kris’ end it was stone cold, in John Paul and Elliot’s corner it grew claustrophobically uncomfortable, and Georgia just met Kris’ eyes with her own powerful gaze.
This time however he didn’t stand down.
“To put it bluntly, yes.” Georgia said.
She then cocked her head confidently.
“How long have you been listening?”
Disconcerted, Kris ignored the question and instead focused on John Paul.
Who stood his ground.
“You’ve got some nerve coming here.” Kris said.
The thought that it felt like they were a theatre stage flitted through Georgia’s mind.
“What are you doing here?”
“What’s that got to do with you?” John Paul replied.
Kris scowled at him.
Georgia looked from one to the other and then suddenly laughed out loud.
They all looked at her as if she were mad.
Maybe she was just then.
“You done acting like three year olds?”
Slowly working through it, taking longer to write chapters these days.
I don't know who's reading this but it would be great to hear from you!

Chapter 4
"John Paul?"
The boy in question raised his head from his thoughts as they swirled round in his cup of tea.
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry, about earlier." Ellito stammered guiltily.
"I didn't mean to get you into trouble with Sarah.
Or Kris, for that matter."
John Paul shook his head.
"S'ok." He said. "Kris is...
Ah, he's nothing.
And Sarah... well, she was just drunk." He took a sip of tea.
And returned to his thoughts.
He hadn't really thought about Craig much since he'd left.
He'd started afresh, purging his soul of the toxi tastes that came from loving Craig.
Moving out of home for a while, starting college, meeting new people had done him a world of good: his life was his own, free of the heavy past and eagerly awaiting a brighter future that sat comfortably in his hands.
He hadn't really imagined that Sarah would still be caught up with it, that it still hurt her, that she hadn't really moved on properly.
A pity: he missed the old, happier Sarah.
These days, he realised, her smile always looked slightly forced.
Not how he wanted things to turn out...
Ugh, enough of wallowing in sould memories.
"Anyway," he started quietly, a grin spreading across his face.
"What's going on with you and Georgia?"
Elliot went bright red.
"Nothing." He denied reflexively.
"We're just friends, that's all."
"Uh-huh." John Paul smirked.
"So what's she doing here then?"
"I don't know." Elliot replied innocently.
"Like she said, stuff to do with Jess."
"So why did she end up here drinking hot cocoa with you?"
Elliot looked down at his mug.
He didn't really want to think about it, to be honest.
After Georgia had left Hollyoaks so many months ago, left England for the Continent, he'd gotten on with his life.
The fact that he kept her postcards from all the places she'd visited didn't mean anything.
It wasn't as if he'd obsessively waited for the next one, it really wasn't like that.
That way when each came it was a pleasant surprise, a treat to hear from his friend as she enjoyed herself, pouring her happiness out into each word.
He put aside missing her and contentedly stored her in his memory, like a treasure to be gazed at rarely to preserve it.
It didn't stop him from being vaguely disappointed when she slowly stopped writing, but he had no way of writing back, so what could he do?
Besides, they were just friends.
Always had been. There wasn't anything else, anything more.
So he was lucky to escape a broken heart.
Even though he knew perfectly well, and she'd known too, that he'd loved her.
And he knew she'd loved him, in her own, platonic way.
And in the end, that had been enough.
Just about.
"We're just friends," he repeated quietly, so quietly John Paul barely heard him, "that's all." He smiled sadly, sighed and drank the last of his now cold hot choc.
"Well, at least you've got good taste in 'friends'." John Paul stated, smirking slightly.
He stood up. "I'm gonna head off.
I'll talk to you later about what we're going to do with the Pirates, alright?" Elliot nodded.
"Tell Georgia I hope I see her around.
Have fun..." He added with an understanding grin as he showed himself out.
Leaving Elliot to thoughts he didn't have the luxury of entertaining.
Not sure if I'll write again tonight, I hope so.
Got a fair bit of studying to do Hope people like how it's going, please comment!

Many thanks to the moderators for extending the opening hours!
Chapter 5
"How are you doing, Kris?" Georgia asked him, grabbing the door as he tried to shut it on her.
She stepped into the room, closing the door behind her and watched Kris sulkily sit on his bed, fixing her with a cold look.
"Oh, I'm fantastic." He said sarcastically.
She didn't react, keeping her curious gaze on him.
Finally he calmed down, exhaling his frustration out with his breath.
"No, I'm not." He muttered, his shoulders slumping against the wall.
She tentatively went over and sat next to him and waited to see who would speak first.
No prizes for guessing who.
"Why are you here, Georgia?"
She smiled.
She fished out a piece of paper from her jean's pocket, unfolded it and read out a passgae from it:
"To do list: 2) check on Kris." She folded it up again and put it back in her pocket, aware that his eyes were following it, intrigued.
There were plenty more things on the list.
"Jess talked about you a fair bit."
The coldness returned.
"Oh really? What did she say?" He asked, icily.
"That she was sorry to leave you without saying goodbye."
He looked down at Georgia with surprise.
She met his look, asserting her honesty.
His heart choked up.
"She said that?" Georgia nodded.
"Then why did she?"
Georgia stared into the room, unseeing as she contemplated her answer.
"I imagine because if she had, then she wouldn't have left." She turned back to him, an apologetic look on her face.
"If it makes you feel any better then I think you were the last thing that would have kept her here.
After losing Zoe, and Darren being a class A prat, all her money problems...
Let's face it, there wasn't much left worth staying here for.
Except you."
Suddenly he realised how wet his cheeks had turned.
He dabbed them with his fingers, surprised to see them run with his tears, and felt Georgia's sympathetic hand on his arm.
He suddenly laughed, unamusedly, at himself.
"Can't believe I'm crying over this..." The tears stopped with that remark.
Even though he knew exactly what he sounded like.
"Don't say that." Georgia said, patting his arm.
"I can't believe what a mess things have ended up as..." He said quietly.
"I know.
Neither can I, actually." Georgia said honestly, sitting back.
He chuckled at her bluntness.
Then thought more seriously.
"Do you think things have turned out differently?" He asked.
Somehow he trusted Georgia's judgement: he remembered she'd always been pretty observant, and smart, emotionally smart that is.
If anyone could come up with an accurate answer, it was probably her.
"Honestly?" She paused.
"I don't know." She took in Kris' disappointed look.
"I don't blame Zoe for not forgiving Jess.
If Jess had done that to me then I wouldn't forgive her either.
A pity that they couldn't have fallen out of a more deserving bloke." They both smiled at that.
Then she frowned, understanding the true nature of his question.
"As for your... whatever you had with Jess...
Yes. That could have been different.
Maybe at certain times in your past it wouldn't have worked out.
Like when you were both making each other jealous.
Like when things much bigger than either of you got in the way;
Your HIV scare, and your brother disowning you.
If the two of you had worked through that together, then yeah, you would have had a chance.
I can only imagine how much you both would have gained from each other if you had.
But you left for a while, didn't you?
Time makes things cool off.
We move on, life adapts and goes with its own flow.
By the time you got back, sounds like too much had changed.
And then this whole mess with Zoe and Darren happened."
Kris nodded, understanding.
Regreting. "I can't believe she was so stupid to do that..." He muttered, hiding his face in his hands.
And remembering his eye make-up too late.
"What, sleep with Darren?" He nodded.
"Can I be honest?" He nodded again.
"It didn't surprise me too much."
He snapped his head out of his hands and stared at her with shock.
"What?"
"Oh, I'd never have thought it would be Darren but...
When she told me how it happened, it made sense to me.
In a odd fashion, I must admit." Georgia said.
Kris' face fell with disgust.
She could understand why Jess had betrayed her best friend over Darren?
No way...
"Don't look at me like that." Georgia said reproachfully.
For her sake he adjusted his frown, but still, this had better be a good explanation...
"Women are odd creatures sometimes.
As you well know." She teased.
"Sometimes we... we crave emotion.
Connections with people.
To care about someone, to love someone, hell, just to fancy someone.
I'm like that." She smiled sadly.
"Without people around me, I'm a bit nondescript.
One of my many flaws." She chuckled bitterly.
"Life's a bit boring without feeling some sort of closeness with someone, we end up feeling a bit empty.
Jess can be like that, so she fills her emptiness up with thinking about herself mainly." They both took a moment to ponder over the truth of that.
"I imagine Darren must have been the first person she felt she had some sort of connection with after losing what she had with you.
She told me what fun it was going to casinos with him, she said she got this great buzz from it.
Not from the winning, but...
Being a team, I suppose.
I don't know, I'm just guessing here really, from things she told me." Kris nodded, getting his head round what she was saying.
"The night she left, Darren told her that it hadn't been anything serious, just a bit of fun.
He still wanted Zoe, even though we all know - and she knew - that he doesn't stand a chance.
He had - essentially - used her.
For luck, money and thrills."
She paused a moment, and thought over what she'd said.
Then she frowned and turned round more to face Kris as he thought over it too.
"I'm not saying that it's an excuse.
It's not a reason to forgive her either.
She knows that too, she told me that.
But that's the why, I think anyway.
She didn't tell me why, but she'd not that difficult to figure out sometimes."
Kris nodded.
First time he'd actually listened to someone properly in a while, shouldn't have felt like a strange exercise.
Good thing that Georgia always seemed to be owed respect, and that respect was listening to her, a somewhat rare quality.
One he was immensely jealous of.
"Why are you sticking up for her?" He asked.
He was curious: he remembered clearly Georgia's overwhelming gratitude when Jess had been there when her grandmother - the only real and true family she had - passed away, and knew that Georgia had had every intention of returning the favour.
But this... this seemed somewhat beyond the call of duty.
She shrugged her shoulders.
Then she smiled. "Call it an excuse to see you all again." She patted his arm again and stood up to leave.
At the door, she seemed to remember something and turned back.
"By the way, about the pirates..."
Kris' mood immediately turned to sour again.
"What?" He said testily.
"Lay off them.
Never mind if they're good or not, popular or not, if your ego can't take their beatings then you don't have the right to beat theirs." He started to protest, but she continued over him.
"So leave them alone, and let me handle it instead.
I have an idea..." She gave a theatrical bow, making him look at her with amusement, and she left the stage.
Also known as his bedroom.
Yay for late nights!
Even though everyone's vanished and gone to bed anyway...
Lol, go figure. Ah, had fun writing that, feels like old times where it just flows Take care everyone, and please comment!
P.S.: please don't tell me how much you want to see Georgia and Elliot get together, makes it difficult to figure out which direction this is going to go in, same thing happened with Necessities, it would have been too predictable don't like using cliches or being predictable, prefer to go with natural flow so it feels believeable.
And please bear in mind why they didn't get together at the end of Necessities...
P.P.S.: If you haven't read Careful Thoughts (the first fiction in this series), would like to but can't find it then let me know and I'll repost it if I can.
Night! xxx

Chapter 5
Sarah woke up, her head splitting open, the world still spinning, wondering why it was dark.
And how she'd got up to her room.
Her shoes were next to her bed, and her duvet was tucked up around her.
She smiled dopily.
Still her dad's little girl, even when slightly hammered.
Ok, maybe not slightly in the end...
Ugh...
Hangover when drunk...
Not fair. Need water, she thought.
Will think tomorrow.
She dragged herself out of bed and stumbled downstairs to the kitchen.
Tempted to just stick her head under the tap but...
Eww. She got a glass, holding onto it tight to make sure she didn't drop it and got a drink.
Gulped it down. Got another and stumbled back upstairs to bed to sleep.
Good thing she didn't notice the empty bottles of wine and the pair of abandoned glasses.
Or Zoe's closed bedroom door, or her father's empty room...
"Sure it's ok to stay?
I don't want to be in the way, and I can easily check into a hotel or something." Georgia asked uncertainly.
She was setting up her sleeping bag on the sofa, her backpack safe in Elliot's room.
He gave her a look as an answer: 'don't be silly'.
She smiled to herself and wandered down the hallway to his room for her pjs.
It was late, past midnight, and after talking for hours about the lives of his fellow villagers they were both yawning, often in unison because one would set the other off.
She'd been trying not to doze off when Elliot was talking, it had been a long drive up tp Chester, with only the radio and traffic for company.
Not enough hundred miles an hour thrills hehe...
She came out of his room and disappeared to the bathroom to change and brush her teeth.
Closed the door, and crashed.
She stepped in front of the mirror and stared at her reflection.
Wide-eyed, hollow...
Barely there. Her skin needed a little sun, she thought lamely.
Christmas in England had been a mixed affair.
Living alone, watching Christmas specials on tv, drinking a little too much Baileys milkshake, losing her Italian tan.
She'd spent Christmas Day itself with some friends of her grandmother's, along with all their relations.
She'd thought it was going to be really awkward, being the young one, but in the end it had been fun.
All of Betsy's grandchildren were little and needed someone with energy to use up theirs and she'd spent the morning playing hide-and-seek, laughing almost every minute.
Good turkey, good roast potatoes, heavenly mince pies.
Feeling full, she'd gone back to her grandmother's house - her house - checked the answer machine and smiled happily through the messages left by friends and loved ones.
And heard nothing, as usual, from her mother or father.
So she'd tucked into the Christmas pudding she'd prepared months ago with friends from Italy, lit it up with brandy and spent the evening slowly digesting the DVDs she'd been given for Christmas.
When her mother finally remembered her, it was the twenty seventh and Georgia could barely say a word to her as she rambled on about skiing in St Moritz with her millionnaire boyfriend.
Yes, it does tend to be expensive staying in five star hotels and going shopping for designer labels and jewellry.
When Georgia realised that the conversation was slowly turning towards a request/invitation to stay at the house she'd inherited from her grandmother, Georgia had finally cut over her mother and said bluntly that she could keep the hell away from her property and hung up.
No wonder she was so glad to be in better company...
She stripped off and changed, brushed her teeth, reminded herself to call Jess in the morning, removed the frown and went back out.
Elliot was in his room, sitting on his bed, deep in thought, wrapped up in a dressing gown.
With his red hat still on.
"You alright?" She asked.
He looked up tiredly at her, nodded and beckoned her in.
She sat next to him, plucked his hat off and fiddled with it.
"Missed you."
She looked up at his adorable smile and smiled back.
She leaned against him, her head on his shoulder.
"Missed you too."
He rested his head on hers, rubbing his cheek against her hair for a moment.
"So. How's Derek?"
She straightened up.
Immediately regretted it.
"He's good. He's in Edinburgh still, haven't seen him since the summer in Italy."
"You didn't see him at Christmas?"
"No." She shrugged.
"We broke up."
Oh no...
Here we go, the regular beat in Elliot's blood seemed to say as it swept him away.
Not sure if that last line makes any sense, if it doesn't I'll rephrase it
Thanks to ♥* for your defense of my title lol.
And I knew I recognised you, Torch/Dobalis, I remember you!
Thankyou so much for reading my third part (and almost definitely the last) of my Careful series, oh you've just made my day now lol how are you?

Chapter 7 Saturday 12th January "08
St Albans
Jessica Harris woke from her dreamless lie in when her mobile rang loudly.
She opened her eyes reluctantly, and after a moment to remember where she was she slowly turned over and stared at her phone as it vibrated and sang at her from the bedside table.
Right, she remembered.
At Georgia's. That's probably her.
She peered at the caller id.
Well I'll be, it is her -
Oh God.
Jess woke up properly then, grabbed her phone and answered it after a moment's hesitation to battle her nerves.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Jess.
Me."
Jess sighed with relief.
"Hey Georgia. How are you?"
"Ok.
Sofa's not comfy."
"Didn't sleep in Elliot's room then?"
"No...
He offered. I declined."
"Oh did he now?"
Georgia chuckled.
"Nothing like what you're think, Jess.
Did I wake you?"
"Yes, but I forgive you.
What time is it?"
"'Bout half ten."
"Hmmm.
Early for you on a weekend."
Georgia chuckled again.
"Indeed. You alright?"
"Yeah, I'm ok." She took a deep breath.
"How are things there?"
"Honestly?" Georgia teased.
Jess groaned. Oh God, how bad were things?
"Could be better.
That is the idea after all."
"Georgia..."
"Ok, things are...
Well. You know. Probably little different to how things were not two weeks ago.
Even in this place." Georgia took a deep breath.
"Spoke to Kris."
Jess' stomach plummeted like a stone inside her.
Oh no... "What did he say?"
"Not much.
More I told him stuff."
"Like what?" Jess asked nervously.
Georgia's silence suddenly rang vaguely cold.
"Like the truth, or something that's meant to be the truth."
Jess' stomach stayed where it was.
Truth was not necessarily good...
"How is he?"
"He misses you." Georgia said honestly.
Jess smiled at that.
She missed him too.
"So to speak anyway."
Odd, that went through her mind too...
"What do you mean?"
"I think your friendship, if that's the right word to use - which it isn't - fizzled out a while ago.
He misses that, like you do." Georgia said bluntly.
And honestly. And truthfully.
"He misses how you were when things were better for you."
She chuckled coldly.
"So do I..."
Georgia sighed sympathetically.
"I know, hun, I know."
"Seen anyone else yet?"
"No." Georgia said, more business-like.
"Not this weekend."
"Ok.
The village was always dead at the weekend anyway.
Monday's a good day to go -"
"Jess."
"What?"
"Don't start." Georgia said quietly.
"Don't hurry me or push me or rush me.
Ok? Please?"
Jess sat up, surprised at her friend's lightly pleading tone.
"I'm sorry, of course." She waited a moment.
"Georgia?"
"Hmmm?"
"Thank you." Silence on the other end.
Jess took a deep breath.
"I mean it, I'm...
I'm so grateful for this."
Georgia gave a relieved sigh.
"I know. Just... give me time, ok?
Things might take a while anyway, and..." Georgia trailed off.
"I want to stay for a little while.
I miss this place too."
Jess smiled.
"Of course, I'm sorry, I shouldn't be pressuring you." Georgia chuckled in agreement.
"Look, Gee..." This time Jess trailed off.
Georgia waited patiently for her to say what she wanted to say.
"Make sure Zoe's ok.
It doesn't matter if she'd mad with me still, just make sure that she's alright."
"I know, I will.
Take care, ok?"
"Go for it."
"I'm sorry?"
"Nothing.
Call me when you call me?"
Georgia laughed.
"Will do. Go back to sleep, Jess."
"Yes ma'am." Jess laughed and the two hung up.
Right, I'm done for the night, hope people are reading this still, always worries me when people don't write back
Hope you're all well, take care xxx

Yay, finally someone's commented!
Lol ok, bit sad, I worry that people get tired of my style
But anyway, this is likely to be the shortest of my fictions, unless I come up with some new ideas as time goes on.
Will try to tie things in with the storylines on tv if I can, or use them when they fit.
If there's a story that anyone's particularly interested in then that would be good to know, will try to link things in.
Moving away from traditional Kress, things have changed far too much to carry on with that fantasy lol.
Night everyone xxx

Hey Liberal!
Just finished reading this through, I would have got to it sooner if all my teachers hadn't decided in unison that it would be a great time to give me tons of coursework.
I love this fic, like your other two, I think it's really unique and I love how it's from Georgia so it's like an outside perspective.
I don't think I'll ever get tired of your style lol, can't wait for more.

Chapter 8
[I]Weekends, it is generally known, are typically dead.
Nothing happens, all shuts down and dissolves into quiet, ad if recovering from the stresses of the week.
For students, the same rule has a tendency to apply: they nurse off hangovers, do the studying they're there to do so they can at least pass.
Others stay in, watch tv, do their chores, their homework, all the things of normal everyday life.
Or, in the case of Georgia and Elliot, they wake up, make coffee, sit in bed wrapped up in a duvet and watch sci-fi movies.
They start with the new trilogy of Star Wars, give up very quickly when they realise that it's about trade federations (can't get more dull than that for a plot line), and switch to Georgia explaining over the subtitles and original Japanese dubbing what was going on in Ghost in the Shell.
They ended up debating the likelihood of having cyborgs in the future: humans with robotic bodies.
Elliot said that it was probably being worked on somewhere in the world, most likely under a secret military project looking to make human tanks.
Georgia came it at from another angle, more suited to the degree she'd abandoned: she hoped not, because of the implications of it, and the questions that would be answered only afterwards.
Do we have a soul, and if we do, where is it?
If we don't, what makes us essentially us?
"What makes me me?", as she'd put it.
Sunday however Elliot had to remember he was a student, he was in his second year, and his work now counted to his degree, and so got the books out, no matter how reluctantly (for once).
Georgia quite contendedly disappeared from the flat for the day, only reappearing as the sun set with bag after bag of groceries for the whole flat.
Actual food too, not pot noodles.
She said she'd spent too much time in Italy now, she couldn't stand being in a place without food to cook.
And after banishing Elliot to his bed so he could sleep for his early lecture on Monday morning, Georgia spent sometime staring at the fresh, colourful decor through the dark, contemplating her plans of action as it gradually formed in her mind.

Hey readers,
Just wanted to apologise to (no doubt very few) people who might be checking to see if I've written more.
I am continuing the fiction, I'm just going through a writer's block.
I suffer from depression, it tends to drag everything to a stand still for me.
Will check regularly to see who's around, like talking to you guys
Take care everyone,

Hey Liberal,
Good to see you are carrying on with this, hope you get over your depression.
I've suffered from depression and still do, and it does just stop everything else.
Can't wait for more, love this fiction.
