Zherdev / Fritsche to NYR for Tyutin / Backman - Calgarypuck Forums - The Unofficial Calgary Flames Fan Community
Http://blog.dispatch.com/cbj/
What do you all think?
I say that's the end of the Jagr era in New York.
edit: BLARGH, got the wrong title, it's to NYR, no CLB!
Mods, please change accordingly!

You need to fix your title.
|
 |
|
You mean Zherdev and Fritsche to the NYR for Tyutin and Backman...Is the CBJ going to sign like 4 forwards here or something?
|
 |
|
Zherdev is an amazing talent but I don't know if he ever actually reaches his potential.
Tyutin is a reliable 2nd pairing guy.
CBJ's strategy this off-season seems to be to trade underachieving skilled guy w/ a ton of potential - for less talented guys that are more reliable and consistent.

 |
Well bringing in Redden and re-upping Roszival makes Tyutin and his 2.84M cap hit a little bit redundant.
NYR had 9 D under contract so you knew they'd have to do something...
They get a solid young character guy in Fritsche and a boom or bust project in Zherdev.
I like the deal from their standpoint, a lot.
For Columbus, they bring in 2 quality D-men to solidify their corps, rid themselves of the Zherdev headache, though it probably stings to give up Fritsche.
However, Tyutin is a stud.
I think it works for both teams.

I like the trade for Columbus, although Zherdev's ceiling has always been high.
Columbus has tons of D-men now, right?

No not really, after losing Hainsey, buying out Westcott, and Tarnstrom being UFA, they were down to 5 D-men under contract: Hejda, Klesla, Russell, Tollofson, Commodore.

I got a text from TSN confirming it.
|
 |
I don't know what CLB is thinking here.
Win for NYR!

Okay, thanks.

Win for NYR! Columbus must feel this gives them a better chance to win right now, since they seem so desperate to make the playoffs this coming season.

That's garbage for Zherdev.
CBJ loses this trade, hands down.
|
 |
Jackets defense will be well-rounded next year.
Offense not so much.

|
I always noticed Fritsche on the ice when we played CBJ, i think he could develop late into a pretty important player - but who ever knows really...
Claeren.

I think that the dumbest GM in the league now resides in Columbus.
Zherdev, Fritsche, and Brule gone in trades that in my opinion the Blue Jackets lost.
Maybe the biggest improvement that Lowe makes in Edmonton is when he let Howson (sp?) go to Columbus.
When you are a contending team, or a team on the cusp of becoming contending, then you can start to trade young talent away before giving them a shot.
Until then you are just wasting poor performances and good drafting positions.
My prediction is that Howson will become the new Milbury at the punchline in NHL jokes.

 |
I don't see them trading Zherdev for no reason;
He must have fallen out of favor in Columbus, although I did think that Hitchcock was working wonders with him.
It's a good move for the BJs to shore up their defense but now looking at their roster their offense outside of Nash looks absolutely horrendous.
|
 |
Decent move if Fritsche wasn't involved.
Kid is good. He is a little behind in his development as he was injured a lot as a youngster.
|
 |
Players for a Hitchcock system?
Tyutin a poor-man's unpolished Zubov?
Really what Columbus is missing from the player personnel are top end centers.
Although with Umberger in the mix, Columbus could have their own "mini" Legion of Doom line with Nash/Umberger/Modin.
One line for scoring, and then fill out the rest of the roster with defensively responsible forwards.
You know that with the Head coach they have that Columbus will be very good defensively.
Whether it will be enough to compete with Detroit, or at the very least, surpass Nashville remains to be seen.

I agree completely, although he's going to have to fight for the rights to that title with Gillis and Waddell.

Prediction: NYR makes another trade, sending Nigel Dawes to the Calgary Flames.
