Hellboy References/Tidbits - Comic Book Resources Forums

Bought a few Sin City novels a couple of days ago, was rather happy to see a number of Hellboy references in there... In A Dame To Kill For, some drunk in a bar is wearing a Hellboy tshirt and further on in the book, a prostitute in old town has a nice Hellboy keyring. Theres also the film Dogma, in which one of the roller-blading Stygian triplets is wearing a Hellboy tshirt. Anyone else spotted any references in other media?

And how awesome would Frank Miller's take on Hellboy/BPRD be? Chris

Check "Blade 2" (directed by GtD) for the Hellboy nodder.

Drawn by Ryan Sook, there's a whole page where Drusilla kills a doorman outside a strip club.

The doorman looks just like Hellboy.Writes Hellboy and Buffy editor Scott Allie, "You know, I forgot about this one.

When Ryan turned in thumbnails for this page of Spike and Dru, the drawings were really rough, but something about this big bulky doorman with a goatee reminded me of Hellboy, so I suggested to Ryan we make a joke of it.

So he drew him to look like Hellboy, and I think it was his idea to add the glasses.

I explained to the colorist that since it was a strip club, it would make sense if all the light out front was red, thus making this guy appear to have red skin.

The colorist didn't do it that way, he colored it all pretty natural, so we had to redo it here are Dark Horse.

I don't remember if we ever pointed this out to Mike, but he usually looks at everything Ryan does, so he probably saw it.

Another Dark Horse tidbit: the two dead guys in the strip club are DH editors Randy Stradley (in his trademark Hawaiian shirt) and Chris Warner (who Ryan didn't draw short enough, so we had to digitally scoot him down in the frame).

Aside from this, none of the Hellboy cameos in the Buffy books were my idea...

I sent Cliff Richards all the Hellboy books to read, and ever since he's been putting him in stories.

He seems to be slowing down now, but I just wanted everyone to know that those were all his." Summary.

I have about 1100 image files related to tidbits that are (and are not) listed above...

I stopped compiling them in 1999, but I still collect info on stuff I see.

Google can provide almost anything/image, but if anyone is ever looking for something, don't hestitate to ask if you can't find it otherwise.

Thank you, Lady J.

Thanks! Seems the comic book world is littered with in-jokes!

Jonell's post got me to wondering... Has there ever been a checklist of Mignola's various magazine articles/interviews?

Here are some articles-- another group I stopped compiling online about 2001?

I still collect info/images though, so let me know if you are looking for anything. Here's the old website stuff-- just cut and paste.
