eBay Forums: All Talk, and talk, and talk, and still ...
Perfect example..
Back story:
McCain and Obama both backed measures that were blocked by hardline Republicans in Congress that would have given undocumented foreign workers a path toward citizenship.
But McCain, who had championed the reform bill despite opposition within his own party, has since said his focus was now to secure America's porous border with Mexico first.
"We will not succeed in the Congress of the United States until we convince a majority of the American people that we have border security," McCain said.
"But that does not have to be done in an inhumane or cruel fashion," he said, vowing to push for a temporary worker program again.
Notice how McCain actually said something of substance?
Something traceable.
Now, here's Obama:
Obama, who spoke to the group shortly after McCain, criticized the Arizona senator for shifting his focus to border security.
"He said that he wouldn't even support his own legislation if it came up for a vote," Obama said.
"And if we're going to solve the challenges we face, we can't vacillate.
We can't shift depending on our politics."
"We haven't been serious in solving the problem," Obama said, vowing to make immigration reform "one of my priorities on my first day" at the White House.
Translates to: "I have no freaking idea what I'm talking about or what I'll do about whatever this question is about, but I'll make damned sure it seems like I have it under control"

I have no freaking idea what I'm talking about
yes you dont have any freaking idea what he is talking about, nor could it be cumulated into a sound byte.
its just like Kerrys 365Page plan, go back and read it NOW, the old kerry plan, while to complex for a sound byte , it did have many interesting (but complex) possible solutions, that had more logic for the basis of functioning in reality.
even the republicans learned some of Kerrys interesting concepts, after 5 years of failing , by using ones that fit into sound bytes.
same thing with Obamas Abortion, immigration, fight agaisnt terrorism, health trash, and others, his concepts are comming out of having paid attention in the job he has been (actually) doing representing citisens.
its fraught with all the ramifications of every action, and there being no single Pat lame stupid answer that alleges to solve all the worlds problems.
he has Legislation debate ramification syndrome.

Obama is all hot air.
McCain is fighting a losing battle for the one remaining working brain cell of most of the American public.
That one cell can't process the cold hard truth of specifics, so gentle massaging and generalities seem soothing to some..

Cracking up at the OP
|
 |
Listening to Obama, he is going to have a pretty full 1st day in office, if he gets eleted, figuring out what he should do about all the things he obviously has no clue about.
Pretty darn scarey.
Neither candidate is my dream candidate, but Obama, well I don't know anything about him except what he wanted to tell me in his books - just so it would not be held against him in his quest for the presidency.
But I have big problems with a guy that talks about being a uniter and then plays the race card, was a member of a racist church, and has some pretty darn interesting friends.
BUT, I am expected to believe what he tells me his is.
Then I listen to all the speeches about hope and change.
And now, weeks after the SPEACH that was the "greatest thing since Lincoln speech at Union Junctin" it is finally surfacing that many that originally touted it as so, now feel there was really nothing there.
You know what? They are right!
A kind of "Emperor's new clothes" moment meaning....their wasn't anythin there that ws pertinent to the issue at hand.

what cold hard truth is that?
That mccain is just going to continue all the failed bush policies of the last 8 years?
That is the COLD HARD TRUTH that you can't handle.

Now as for McCain.
There are things I certainly don't agree with him about.
But I do not think the man is war monger.
I believe, having servied in WWII, that any man who serves in a war, especially McCain ho was a prisioner of war for years, is not at all that anxious to start or continue wars.
I also belive that age and maturity put a level head on people.
It is usually the young who are rsh, egotistical and want things like war, etc.
The elderly KNOW and understand the reprocussions of such actions.
|
 |
OP - you are on to something about the attention span of the general public.
That is why so many researchers are still trying to figure out "What's the Matter with Kansas" and why so many people vote against their own interests.

his actions say the complete opposite.
He has supported bush in every way about iraq, and will continue the failed policies of the last 8 years.

Opinions here are for self amusement only.
McCain will lose in a virtual landslide.
Then you will have full opportunity to whine about Obama.
Yep it's me Annie
|
 |
Mccain has about as much chance as Bob Dole did.
Practically NONE.
Yet his supporters will continue to praise him and swear he will win in the end.
|
 |
Most folks don't have the time or inclination to worry about the business of the United States Of America.
As long as nothing happens that affects them directly, life is good.
When a candidate speaks in specific terms, it tends to glaze over the eyes of the average person, who would much rather not be presented with yet another set of options and decisions to make in this already horribly complicated life, what with iPod playlists, parking, and those damned HDMI/cable box problems, not to mention which credit card balance transfer offer to choose from.
Obama has mastered the art of fluff.
McCain is bogged down trying to explain what will happen, to people who really, truly, don't care to know.

they don't care to know because they've seen what has happened the last 8 years, and mccain is nothing but a continuation of that.
Why should they listen to him at all?

Exactly. Why buy olive oil, with documentable benefits to health, when you can buy Snake Oil, which promises, well, something different.
Different is exciting to the kids and those who want to seem as if they are kids.
We have a whole generation of people who are pissed they are getting old, and will do anything to fit in.
Including voting for the Rolling Stone favorite.

LOL, so mccain continuing the failed policies of the last 8 years, to you, are the olive oil?
Is that what your saying?
|
 |
You know, Obama backed a lot of those same bills McCain did.
Does that mean that Obama will also continue the failed policies of the last 8 years?
Seems to me he's off to a good start.
Things, and his voting record (when he bothered to show up and vote, or just didn't vote present) shows that nothing is going to change with him either.
Same ole same ole.
|
 |
It's sure going to change alot more with obama then mccain.
At least with obama, there is no chance of a bush 3rd term, with mccain, it's a guarantee.
|
 |
Are you sure of that?
Has Obama ACTUALLY said ANYTHING with substance...other than what he tells us he is about in his book.
I read him talk about being a uniter, etc.
And then saw him hooked up with a rapid racist, white-hating, hate preaching preacher that he refused for months to disavow.
You know... Uncle Racist Rev.
Wright.
Did that tick me of?
You bet! And I haven't and probably won't forget it because it should not be forgotten.
It just shows how far Obama is from what he says he is and what he really is.
And that is just the first of many issues --- like asking the Muslim to move because they didn't want them in the background while he was speaking.
Actually that was his handliners, but they ACT for him.
Onl when the flack started did Obama apologize.
Heck, apologiex are cheap, what counts is the picture.
And Obama did not want to be seen with those Muslims behind him.
|
 |
It doesn't matter what anyone says.
The last 8 years have been a massive failure.
Mccain will continue that PERIOD.
He has supported every bush failure and continues to do so.
|
 |
Oh yeah, the substance....HOPE, CHANGE.
What ever that means.
I am certain it means something different to different people.
Obama keeps it vague.
Why? Because you can't pin anything on him, and the American people don't seem to want to hear the cold, hard facts of what is going on today and the fact taht here are no quick fixes and the gov.
Is, for all intents and purposes, broke.
Just as long as they keep paying me m Social Security monthly, and they damn well had better index it for the inflation as well.

Mr. Stoveman - You keep voting for all that HOPE and CHANGE and we will see what really happens if Obama gets elected.
I would not hold my breath hoping for any substantial changes.
|

The fact taht here are no quick fixes and the gov.
Is, for all intents and purposes, broke.
yes thanks to Bush.
And who's policies will continue under mccain?
The exact same ones that have broken the system now.

ANY CHANGE is better then what we have now.
And that will not change under mccain.

The cold hard fact of the matter is that Bin Laden did say taht he would ruin the United States financially.
It is becoming apparent that he has succeeded.
And I do hold GWB accontable for that because he didn't continue to persue Bin Laden but instead chose to destabilize Iraq.
Certainly Sadamn was a terrible dictator, but there are a lot more just as bad, if not worse than he was and we are not doing a damn thing about them.
|
 |
|
I believe I read somewhere that GWB's father, George Herbert Bush, advised him not to go into Iraq and Junior didn't listen.

We need a regime change here in the USA...
Just say no to bush and more of bush policies with mcsame...
Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit posting on the Town Square
I lost a bet with riccook1 and all I have to show for it is this stupid sig line...
My kind of town, Town Square is, my kind of town...

"The cold hard fact of the matter is that Bin Laden did say taht he would ruin the United States financially."
He only said that because it was obvious, based on the previous Soviet effort.
However, at some point, we will tier of their silly games and the Middle East will become ours, albeit a bit shinier and more radioactive, but nevertheless, ours.

I believe I read somewhere that GWB's father, George Herbert Bush, advised him not to go into Iraq and Junior didn't listen.
Bush 1 predicted in his book exactly what would happen, which is why he didn't do it.
Jr did it anyway and the predictions came true.

Then you will have full opportunity to whine about Obama.
Ya' got that right.
Your opinions do amuse me.
You liberals thought Bush was going to lose too.
It's going to be a sad day for all of you when reality hits right between the eyes, AGAIN.
You'd think that the last experience would have humbled you a bit, but no, you are all still as mouthy and as loud and so sure of yourself as usual.
I guess some folks never learn.

I guess some folks never learn.
I guess not if your still one of the very few that still support this administration, and mcsame for trying to continue in it's failures.

Never had any CHANGE for BLACK folks in Chicago, those struggling, those that were unfortunate enough to have his buddy Rezko as landlord, did he?
Or was it the wine served at those fancy Rezko get-together's that made him forget his own?
|
 |
Don't worry about bush or mccain forgetting their own.
They'll never forget the rich white men, don't worry about that.
Now if your a minority, you've been long forgotten, until of course, election time.

So, no comment on Obama forgetting his BLACK brothers and sisters, let alone the WHITE brothers and sisters, I see.
