Ebay criminal, does huge business through ebay, ebay takes no action - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums
I have bought a counterfeit battery from ebay, which turns out to be fake.
These batteries are dangerous, known to explode, as well as illegal.
The seller is a massive ebay trader and easily does vast annual turnover per year.
There are reports on the internet of this trader having sold all manner of other fake goods.
Ebay have been informed, but take no action.
As far as I am concerned this guy is a criminal, committing fraud, obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception (items are described as original, and charged higher than the genuine ones, even though they are fake).
Ebay does not take effective action against these crooks.
Given the volume of counterfeit goods, he should be put in prison.
I think ebay should be prosecuted as well, for aiding and abetting fraud, but I would like to get the seller prosecuted as a priority.
I am fed up with these fraudsters, the last time I bought razor blades on ebay, they were fake as well.
Has anyone followed up ebay criminals with either Trading Standards or the police?

I don't understand how they can charge a higher price than 'genuine ones' and still sell them, why would anyone buy them?

Trading standards will investigate, you need the seller's address.
Have you told the company whose items they have copied, they would be especially interested and could get a lot done.

I think you'll find line 2 is because of line 1.

I contacted Trading Standards after being sold dodgy perfume.
They were very good.
Not too sure of the result but he stopped trading under that name on ebay.

I once found a guy selling counterfeit goods on ebay.
Must have reported the seller 3 times and ebay never did anything about it.
I emailed the manufacturers and they didn't bother to reply either, so I thought '$@d them'.
If the manufacturer do not care that their product is being ripped off I won't waste my time further.

Trading Standards is your best bet.
EBay will not be in a hurry to shut down a seller that provides them with large sums of money each month, regardless if the are selling fakes or not.
Just my opinion mind.

Did you buy them knowing they were dangerous or have you found out since?

Ebay may well be monitoring it, just because they don't respond immediately, it doesn't mean they're not doing anything.
Example, there were sellers at our local car boot sale selling copy CD's and DVD's, etc, for months.
Then in the Summer, there were arrests at 6 different stalls.
Turns out they had been monitoring activity for months, and had built a portfolio of evidence for the Court.
The best thing you can do is leave negative feedback and steer clear of such sellers.
If you are that concerned about counterfeit goods, I would suggest ony buying from reputable outlets and steer clear of ebay altogether.

The OP has a habit of getting on their soap box for a good rant.
It's EBay this time but it's normally immigrants or Big Issue sellers.

Ok, thanks!

If it was a counterfeit battery, I should think it would be fake.
So you paid more than the price of a genuine one?
Why?
I have a laptop at £500 from dell i will sell it you for £700.

Sorry, I meant generic.
Not genuine. Typo

And you have a habit of posting rude and irrelevant off-topic comments.
Why don't you shut up if you have nothing useful to say?

Hi, also report the item to the brand owner, many companies have departments working on this kind of thing.
For instance when i need auction pulled, a short letter on headed paper gets the item and normally the seller removed quickly, tell you may need to send some further details to them but they would move very quickly to protect their brand name.

Sorry, poorly phrased.
I bought a battery that was listed as a real one, but turned out to be fake, even with fake packaging.
I would not buy any fake.

Don't think ebay would be monitoring car boot sales.
The fact is that numerous people have reported this guy to ebay, over well over a year.
There are feedback on this guy showing that manufacturers have given official confirmation that the goodsare fake, there are people saying that they have complained to ebay, and they have not taken any action.
Ebay are NOT serious about tackling counterfeit goods on their site.
What's needed is a big button to report sellers of fake goods, followed by proactive action to investigate the goods, and pass the information on to trading standards and the police.

Unfortunately leaving negative feedback is very much a bad idea for any buyer.
It has no benefit for the buyer - the seller in question has an automated revenge feedback programme, designed to blemish the buyer's feedback record, and then offers 'mutually withdrawn feedback', which means the negative feedback does not count against the seller's record.
This also has the effect of deterring further negative feedback.
So for every negative feedback calling him out as a fraudster, there are probably another 3 or 4 that say nothing.
I have five year's unblemished ebay record, and I'm not about to lose it for some scumbag criminal.
And yes, avoiding ebay is a good idea, but frankly I'm disgusted that organised crime can be allowed to continue, doing many thousands of sales per month, with no action taken against the seller.
That is totally wrong, and I'm not willing to let him get away with it.

Because it's a public forum.

Quote: : Don't think ebay would be monitoring car boot sales.
That wasn't my point.
My point was that sometimes action isn't taken as quick as people would like.
My case with the car boot sales, is that Trading Standards and the Police were monitoring the activity for months.
They don;t just storm in the first week they see people selling counterfeit sh*te.

I'm sure Trading Standards will act, but ebay won't.
The police didn't seem very interested though.
Reporting to ebay is a waste of time.

Ebay don't give a dam!
I'm a power seller (not under my username) and even on the power seller forums ebay rarely listen.
I would have thought that the power sellers were one of their main sources of continual income.
Ebay CS are useless!
100% useless!
|
 |
Just to update, have emailed trading standards, and then again to check on whether they have received, and no response.
Unfortunately you can no longer call trading standards, all the ebay fraudsters have created a high volume of work, and it's all funnelled through the useless dumbed down Consumer Direct service.
I have since bought same item from Amazon marketplace, also fake....
Very frustrating, especially considering that it seems to be possible to get away with it, there just is not any enforcement of this stuff.

 |
Sorry but a bit confused here.
A real battery is a real one, a generic one is what?
A fake? An accepted alternative?
When does a generic alternative become a fake?
Where does a real one come from?
Does it come from a seller on Amazon Marketplace or the original manufacturer?
