speeding ticket.. wth do i do?

Here's what happened: I was on my motorcycle & hit 108 coming off of a ramp onto a freeway and so the cop pulled me over and wrote me a ticket for doing 90 mph in a 65.

Some people have told me to go ahead and get lawyer and some have told me to take the 4 hour traffic class.

This is my first offense speeding, I wrecked my car last year, but I'm not sure if that really counts for anything because they didn't give me a ticket. So what do I do?

Well, what I usually do doesnt apply here, so I would just pay it.

If you had gotten a ticket for the full amount then you could have fought it.

But I wouldnt do that or youll most likely have to pay for the speed you were really going. When I get a ticket, I get a court date and explain what happened and they usually cut it down in half then give you like 3 months or something to pay it.

Request driving school.

You'll still have to pay the fine but it wont go on your driving record if you goto the classes.

Otherwise just pay it.

Theres no point in hiring a lawyer ($500-$1000) over a $130-$200 ticket.

Only reason you should hire a lawyer is if your caught for reckless driving, racing on the highway, dui, or driving while suspended or some other serious traffic offense.

I'm going to take a gander that the limit for going over the speed limit and taking defensive driving is indeed 25 MPH.

If so, take note of the favor that cop gave you. The comment about taking D/D...do that. Or do what this dingbat says and pay the fine and just ask to be given points on your record! That's a winning recommendation right there!

Take my advice The class is where you want to be headed! Don't try to fight it in court you will be ordered to pay the ticket amount, fat chance they can get you to pay the ticket in the amount of what was really bieng let go as a reduced fine I Quote: my atty "By law if it's not on the ticket at the time of your hearing lawfully the court con't make you pay for it....when you get the original ticket and it says 65 in a forty when you were actually going 90.... too bad he wrote it down and if he decides to change his ticket mid stream then he is admitting that a false report was filed and he then is under the microscope I have carried a CDL for over 11 yrs and they can actually double the points for some infractions in Fl.

Cause they expect comercial drivers to know better. I have attended and chosen the ticket and court both ways down that street and my advise is truly golden take the class!I was stopped for speeding took the class and insurance never knew the difference but failed to signal lane change ....no school insurance almost doubled for a lesser infraction and it is most important to remember that your driving record stays with you for a long time and the insurance keeps killing you for the simple reason (they can!) the atty deal h better save the money for a DUI or something bigger... good luck!
