Lebanon rejects Israeli offer for talks

Lebanon rejects Israeli prime minister's call for peace talks and demands Israel to withdraw from a disputed territory along its borders. "There are pending bilateral issues between Lebanon and Israel which are governed by international resolutions which Israel must respect...

And which cannot be the object of political negotiations," a government statement said on Wednesday. The statement added that Israel must respect Lebanon's sovereignty over its territory and water, release prisoners and provide maps on mines and cluster bombs left in Lebanon during past conflicts. On Tuesday Israeli premier Ehud Olmert suggested holding peace talks with Lebanon, following last month's announcement of indirect, Turkish-mediated negotiations with Syria. Israel captured the Shebaa Farms, a 25-square-kilometer (10-square-mile) area of land on the Israel-Lebanon-Syria border, during the 1967 Six Day War and later annexed it along with the rest of the strategic plateau. Security Council Resolution 1701, which put an end to a 33-day war between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah resistance movement in 2006, demanded an Israeli pullout from the Shebaa Farms. Two years ago, Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora pledged that Lebanon would be the last Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel. http://www.presstv.com/detail.aspx?id=59605§ionid=351020203

Q: Lebanon rejects Israeli prime minister's call for peace talks Two years ago, Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora pledged that Lebanon would be the last Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel. a peace treaty with the lebanese goverment is worthless anyway as they do not really have the power in the country.

Israel will DICTATE TO Lebanon and other Islamists in Middeast.

Good to hear that.

H: Good to hear that. Good to hear the what?

How about all those people who insiste that the Arabs want peace and Isrel doesn't? Aren't all those demands by Lebanon something that should be the ubject of peace talks?

After all, if Israel gives Lebanon everything without even a formal commitment of peace by Lebanon, Lebanon will ahve no reason to talk.

Lt. Flake_Germany: H: Good to hear that. Good to hear the what? I think she means that she is glad to hear that they rejected peace talks. I base that on a prior statement by H that she wants Hamas to keep pounding Sderot and Ashkelon with rockets and mortars.

Flake: H is quite capable of expressing her deepest thoughts when she wants to.

I am waiting for Pete to justify what Lebanon is doing: rejecting peace talks. I am sure he will point out how horrible Israelis (by this he means Zionist Jews in israel) won;t make peace with Syria.
