Clark: Getting 'shot down in plane' doesn't make McCain qualified

"(CNN) -- Retired U.S.

Gen. Wesley Clark, a supporter of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, on Sunday questioned whether Sen.

John McCain's military experience qualified him to be commander-in-chief.

I certainly honor his service as a prisoner of war.

He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands and millions of others in the armed forces, as a prisoner of war.

And he has traveled all over the world.

But he hasn't held executive responsibility," said Clark, a former NATO commander who campaigned for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004. Schieffer noted that Obama did not have any of those experiences, nor had he "ridden in a fighter plane and gotten shot down.

Well, I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president," Clark said." http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/06/29/clark.mccain/?iref=mpstor yview Clark finally said what needed to be said years ago.

The privledged and "Party before Country" McLame has no support from the other 2,500 Vietnam POW supporters still alive whom also agree with Clark.

McLame has milked his POW stautus to his own benefit for way too long now.

As less of the general population joins or has family or close friends in military, the more condescending it gets. ask any one who ever served....not everybody who wears a uniform is a hero

I think clark was right, flying an airplane doesn't qualify somebody to be president of the us.

The case of duke cunningham is a good example.

Cunningham was the only navy pilot ace in vietnam, had exceptional flying and combat skills.

But he was caught with his hand in the till and forced to resign from congress in disgrace.

Fighter pilots aren't the most measured of people and they shouldn't be.

They have to be aggressive and they are often are the type of personality that likes to flirt with the rules, any rules.

Mccain is pretty much from that mold. however, his prison camp experience and his cancer experiences should have tempered his cowboy impulses and allow him new insights into life. fdr was a self-absorbed asshole until he contracted polio;

He then started thinking on a higher order. clark should have taken the whole story into account before he shot off his mouth.

Your right getting shot down does not qualify him to lead this country, But the fact that he has served his country does give him a qualification to serve as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

A man who has never served day one has no idea how to use or treat the military.

Case in point look at what Clinton did to the military.

He downsized us, sent us into more Eastern European and African countries, and never gave us the equipment or financial backing to complete a mission.

Funny how there were no war protests from the liberals back then during Somalia.

We are still in all of the little craphole countries he stuck us in.

I am not saying that President Bush has done much better, or that his service was exemplary, but I do believe service should be a requirement, to be Commander-in-Chief.
