Macedonia Region forums: Macedonia/Pella/Edessa inquires - TripAdvisor

I'm planning on visiting Macedonia for two or three days next month.

I've never been there but I've been to Athens and some of the islands before.

I understand I would have to fly or take a train to Solaniki and then another train to Edessa through Pella.

I'm actually trying to get to a small village called Aetos in the area.

Are the trains from Solaniki dependable and fairly inexpensive?

Should I book a hotel in Edessa before I leave just to make sure I have a place to stay?

I heard the area has tourists year around. Thanks for your help. postfoggy Apr 2005 Forum posts: 1,569 656  Athens, Thessaloniki

Some of your questions have been answered before.

Check the following links: tripadvisor.com/…4356451 tripadvisor.com/…3960180 tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g189473-i965-k5003… tripadvisor.com/…3585568 Trains from Thessaloniki to Edessa are frequent, reliable and inexpensive, but it should be noted that Aetos is quite far from Edessa.

The best way to get there is by bus from Edessa.

I'd advise you to prebook a hotel in Edessa, check www.gto.gr for contact info. postLitsa New York City, New York Joined: Aug 2005 Forum posts: 7,423    Travel map pins: 135  Travel maps show where members have been and are going.

I read that Hotel Aigai in Edessa is actually 4 km from the city centre.

It's a nice, affordable hotel but I'd like to stay closer to the city centre.

Does anyone have any information on affordable hotels in that area of Edessa? postTinsie La Rochelle Joined: Mar 2005 Forum posts: 1,287    Travel map pins: 10  Travel maps show where members have been and are going.
