Bada Bing, Bada Boom Boom.... - The Michigan Sportsman Forums
QDM in action.
This is a pair of does that were harvested on a DMAP on Sunday morning before church.
These are numbers 2 and 3 in the doe department.
The doe on the left weighed 130# live, 110# f/d and the other 138# live, 112 f/d, both were wet.
Both had bellies full of Ed's mid Mich brassica, wheat, and soys.
I'm really diggin the HR 12 ga.
Ultra slug with the 3x9 Leupold and 2-3/4" Winchester partician golds...no tracking required.

Way to go Tony!!

Great job Tony!! We've taken 3 on our lease in WI, but I'd like to put another 7 on the ground to reach our "goal".
Looking forward to a late season doe hunt with a friend or two LOTS OF FUN-congrats!!

Nice Job on the does!
We put a few mature does on the ground on the opener and I plan on taking two more before the end of the season.
Is that HR 12ga.
A single shot? If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's supposed to be a really accurate slug gun from what I've heard.
Have you patterned it out at 150-200yards?
I might upgrade my slug gun before next year and am looking for something that will shoot nicely out to 150-200.

If ya keep shooten all da Momma deers then their ain't gonna be know bucks boorn in yur nayberHOOD.
When ya gunna lurn???

Congratulations QDMAMAN,
You are harvesting what you should albeit not necessarily what you want.
If everyone would practice what you have done, we would see a great improvement in our state's herd.
BTW, what are your best 100 yard groups with your H&R?

If you do a search on this site you'll get reams of great reviews on the HR.
I bought it used last year and absolutely love it.
I get 3" groups out to 125 yds., haven't had a need to site it any further than that although I may this weekend for an up coming doe shoot on some large foodplots.
I am also only shooting 2 -3/4" slugs and I am very pleased with their performance.
The Hornady SSTs where what was origanally recommended for this gun but I couldn't get good groups so I went to the Winchester partitian golds.
At $18.00 per box I'm glad it's a single shot.
Out of the 6 deer I've killed with it so far none have run more than 50 yds.
And all were dead as a pancake when they hit the ground.
I know shot placement has a lot to do with that but just the same it's getting the job done.
I am taking high shoulder shots whenever possible, especially on alpha does, to drop them in their tracks.
This is the reason I was able to harvest this second doe as quick as I could pop in another shell.
The group stood and waited for the alpha to run from the bang and when she didn't I capatalized.

Thanks RIVERRAT,
Actually, when I made the decision to start shooting what I should, I was able to start shooting what I want.
Interesting paradox.

HAHAHAAH If you only knew hom many guys I have heard that from up here in the Soo!

Way to go Tony. Yes, it is true, shoot the alpha doe first and you have a good chance at more.
Wish we had the option of more than two does where we hunt.
Yeah I know there are the DMAPs, but not with the conservative field biologist we deal with.
It's like pulling teeth from a chicken.
When I farmed, yes but not now and the sex ratio has been climbing.
