Champions lge just for champions? - My Football Forum - We Just Love It!
I am a huge Champions League fan and it is quality but i truly believe that the Champions League should be just for each countries league champions,even though that would mean Arsenal being in it rarely if ever and less money for us.What do you all think?

Would be a pretty boring competition like.
Think they would only be about 3 good games.

Totally agree 100% mate.
This would really sort out the men from the boys, and would stop certain teams managers just aiming for the top 4 (Rafa Benitez) being the most obvious.

Not really.I admit the quality would be less but how can you call it the Champions League?Maybe the name should be changed then to the top 3 or 4 league?

I sort of agree with this then it would be more competition within the leagues BUT think if it was just for the champions imagine all the big teams that COULD miss out on it

Chelsea
Arsenal
Liverpool
Real Madrid
Barcelona
AC Milan
Juventus
Inter Milan
and theres probably more clubs but those are the best clubs in the world

I totally agree with you mate.
It makes a mockery of the competition when a team that finishes third or fourth in their league goes on to win the biggest club tournament in the world.
The trouble is, you have to have enough teams involved to stage the competition in the first place.
Granted, there are something like 50 countries in Europe but would you rather have the Champions from each country and then more than likely see some teams unlikely to hold their own in the Championship or see a more competitive Champions League were the clubs have proved themselves over the course of a season?

Yeah I agree with that though why call it the champions league cause its not the champions.
I reckon it should be for teams who WIN cups like the cups from the season and the runner ups have to qualify for it.

Look when liverpool won it, becasue that season along with the rest they knew they couldnt win the prem so they rested everyonr for the champions leaugegame and made sure they finnished top 10, where like other clubs who are playing for the premiership or there leauge and the champions leauge, have it so much hard cause they can never afford to rest players

But they may sometimes cause an upset and deserve to be in the first round proper to!
Why should a team finishing second be in automatically when a team that wins their league has to qualify?Its the same as why do Oceana teams have to play a playoff to get into the world cup!

If you win your own league your in so that's what you ahve to do.
This would also improve the UEFA Cup as al the rest would have to play in that.
