8k HID bulbs or 6k HID bulbs? - Passat World Forums

I just ordered HID headlights and I need the bulbs and ballasts.

I found locally a good deal but cant decide between the 8k or 6k.

I see a slight difference, is there anyone out there with an opinion.

Are the 8k too blue?

Check with what is legal in your area.

Some people get pulled over with bulbs that are too blue. 4300k is stock.

I know one person with 6000k, and it's not too far off with a little blue tinge.

4300k is best for seeing.

8000k is best for looking like a riceboy. Blue != bright;

It just feels bright, because your eyes are easily overwhelmed by blue light.

Your eyes see best with yellow light;

Blue light is only useful in small quantities.

Don't believe me?

Do a google search for the solar spectrum and look at what kind of light our eyes are designed to see.

Dark matter? I couldn't agree more with Deus.

I should get the 16k lights, right? OK I will get the 6k then.

Thanks deusie

Thanks deusie Heh.

Why stop at 16k? Go for the UV lamps, then the road and everything on it will glow all by itself.

It must be true since it was on the internet...lol

Fortunately, the sorts of people who like to waste their time making up fake shit on the internet are not the sorts of people who are even going to think about astrophysics, much less have the knowledge to come up with a convincing fake solar spectrograph.

Those sorts of people hang out on MySpace all day, instead. Next time, spend a little less time coming up with a cynical dumbass response and a little more time thinking about whether one is even warranted.

Dude take a joke !

Noone installs <

4300k, do they?

4300k, do they? 3000k is sometimes used for foglights.

Quote: : Dude take a joke !

I didn't know you were joking.

4300K is ideal for seeing well at night in most conditions, anything over 5000K is too blue and suffers degradation. If you want real "purplerice" they even make up to 30000K, can't see shit but may look cool.

Quote: : I didn't know you were joking. Have you ever used a spectrograph? A friend is a working astronomer, spectroscopy is his main tool to look at the ISM, and dust.

4300k, do they? I have a set of 4300k that i use as fogs and the 8000k i use in my headlights.. i like the look

Sorry for the confusion... that why i put the LOL

Another forum I post on has such ingrained cynicism that even normal indicators of humor can't be trusted.

Never used a professional one.

I've got a friend who runs a mass spectrometer at Union College in NY, though.

I've got a friend who runs a mass spectrometer at Union College in NY, though. The thing is, there are few spectroscopy jokes around!

You guys should stop fighting and just show him a pic.

These are 8000k in my "riceboy" passat.

Giant spoiler and roof scoop is in the mail.

They look less blue without picture distortion...

Also, I have white LEDs in my city lights:

Ingrainedcynicism.net?

4chan?

Just the photo makes my eyes hurt.

I can't imagine what the light is really like.

Maybe the way to think of things is this...

If we see a color it's because there is an absence of other colors ours eyes can see. So, very white like (like the 4300k bulb gives off) is a broad range of colors the eye can see without any one color dominating. Blue light from 8000k-10000k bulbs show an absence of light in the red/yellow range of the visible spectrum.

Similarly, red light from 3000k or lower temperature shows an absence of blue or violet visible light.

That's more or less accurate, but our eyes are tuned to percieve a yellow-biased full spectrum as white, because that's the kind of light we lived in for...well, forever.

Speak for yourself, terrestrial being.

(slap)

I just installed 3000k Eyes in my cat.

Great for mouse hunting (in foggy weather). uu8
