Hi everyone. I haven't been on the bb for very long so I don't imagine anyone missed me these past couple of days but I have been thinking of ALL of you each day and wishing lots of good things to come your way.
I have been working like a crazy-person cleaning my carpets, drapes, curtains, etc.
At the end of the day all I can do is fall on the sofa with my Golden Retriever, Scout and a kitty next to me purring away.
Tomorrow is my last day of week one on the Chantix so away go the smokes.
Surprisingly enough, I've found that this past week I have been smoking less than half what I used to during any given day.
I can only attribute the decline to the medication.
All ashtrays are in the trash and the one that is left will be mailed to my son, Dave, who doesn't smoke.
Sort of a symbol, I guess, that his mom is finally done!
Hoping to be more active on the list in a few days.
I have a HUGE house and the cleaning is taking me forever because I'm not leaving one little nook or cranny unwashed.
LIFE is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming: "WOW, what a RIDE!"

I know how you feel about cleaning!

Can't wait for you to jump in with both feet, Mimi.
And when you and Jlflint get through cleaning your places...you're more than welcome to come on down to Texas and take a wack at my place.
LOL We're leaving town for 2 weeks tomorrow.
So I will check on your progress when we get back.
Will keep you in my mind and prayers while away.
Just stay close and post, post and post.
Take care, mary

Mimi - the Chantrix sounds a bit like the Zyban that I used - start taking it while smoking then set a quit date about 1 week later.
The Zyban totally changed the taste of smokes (made them yucky and gave no 'aaahhh' effect) so it felt like I was already 'mourning' the smokes while being allowed to still light up.
The most scariest part of this process is where you are now - on the meds and knowing that quit day is nearly here.
You will be OK. You can do this.
For me it was both harder than I thought and way easier than I thought too.
I hope this makes sense but that's how it was;
One part of brain screaming to light up while the other part of brain saying;
Are you for real?
Not smoking is great!
Think of all the smokes you haven't smoked already and see how long the money stays in the purse?
And feel youself getting healthier every day.
I evicted Nick O'Teen from my life on the 30/10/06.
Yay.

Mimi--I'm so excited for you to begin this Sounds like day after tomorrow if I'm calculating right.
LOVE your ashtray idea with your son!
And when you're done with cleaning your home, you and Janet just pop in over here

Mimi,
This is Sherri, your Chantix buddy.
You are going to do this.
I quit 3 weeks ago today and you are right behind me.
We are going to be each other's support.
I had a strong psychological feeling of wanting to smoke driving home from work, so I took 10 deep breaths, threw a mint in my mouth, called my friend on cell phone, prayed, and guess what I haven't had another crave since.
This is definitely my sticky quit and I remember all the words that I read here every night after work and it makes it so much easier to know we have such great support.
Keep it up. Don't give in no matter what.
Sherri Through God and prayer you can quit smoking and stay smoke free the rest of your life and remember NEVER TAKE A PUFF!

Well, I quit yesterday (my birthday).
I was out of smokes and didn't want to spend any more money on them just for one day.
So, I knew I'd have to quit tomorrow (Saturday) AM and just hurried it up a bit.
Right now this is my first COMPLETE day without smoking.
The worst part so far is sitting at the kitchen table in the AM and missing the "routine" of smoking.
Urges are coming and going but not all that horrible.
I'm looking forward to a week from now when I'll be sure all of the nictoine is out of my system.
Did I tell you that all of you are wonderful?

Mimi,
Welcome to the board - and congrats on making a great decision (to quit).
You are saving money right now by not smoking - but you could make money by visiting us all aand cleaning - I know Beach girl is first - but I am next in line - and with cash in hand to pay you (LOL) - Humor is such a great thing - especially early in the quit!

We're all joking about me coming to houses to clean.
Well, it's not all that far from reality!
Once I am finished with my place (may take a couple of weeks cuz I have a large Victorian home), I'll be on my way to my son and daughter-in-laws place to do the carpets and clean the windows!
I'll be able to kill two birds with one stone.
Keep busy so I don't crave and not get into the habit of snacking during a crave.
I've also talked with my friend, Karen, and told her I'd be more than happy to do her carpeting, too.

One way I fought craves was to get physically active - walk for five minutes or just get up out of the chair and do something.
It sounds like the physical activity is what works for you as well.
I am glad you found somethign that works for you.
Heh - I just had a thought - if you are not going to come to us to clean, are we invited there to make your house dirty?
(LOL)

Hey, come on over...that is, if you aren't allergic to cats and dogs!
My pets were on my list of reasons to quit.
One day I looked over and my darling white angora, Camille, was near my ashtry.
I saw the smoke going right into her face and nose.
My gosh, she is just an innocent, little kitty and here I was damaging her little, pink lungs.
Oh, and before anyone may think that I am one of those folks who has oodles of pets and can't stop...not so.
It's just that my furry kiddos are important in my life, especially since both of my sons married and left the nest.
Lots of unconditional love just for the taking.

Yeah Mimi...you are going to win..please read my post on winners and losers...it is just for you!
Chantrix fills in where you brain is going to broken, for quite a long time, from nicotine damage, along with other stuff, that my Zyban does not do.
On the 7th day of Zyban, I literally could not stand to smoke, and I had not started my quit yet!
The smoke was just like sucking in gas with no happiness, it was argh!
I am so happy for you because I know you are right on the edge and you are going to be so happy....you will soon be wondering why you ever bothered to smoke!
go Mimi
