Records Records Records! - 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Forums

The same sale where I got the software. I went back and helped them clean up. They gave me two boxes of records.

About 200 I'd guess. LPs and 45s, 33s, everything from opera to talks of self motivation. Mostly from the 60's.

I did find two records in great condition from 1909. I have been having fun trying things like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRMDaOBxUXk Any ideas for what to do with these? EDIT: I do have a record player.

Any good artists in that lot? You could always try to re-sell some of the stuff...I'd be willing to bet that some of the 1960s stuff, if you have any of it, would sell right away (specifically stuff like the Beatles, Motown, etc).

Sell them on eBay.

Some people are really into the old vinyl, and it's made a bit of a comeback in recent years as the real audiophiles don't care for the digital stuff!

I may be interested what titles do u have?

If there are any Grateful Dead albums in there, look inside and see if you got any "extras" Those "1909 records" will probably be 78 rpm, easily cracked shellac, and you need a different and larger type of stylus to play them, and use ony record cleaners specifically formulated for shellac. Later records are often marked "unbreakable", but they're not!

But they weren't as likely to shatter if dropped as shellac was. What's on those records?

Things like hymns might be purely of historical interest, but if it happens to be more folk music, ragtime or "race" music (usually a euphemism for "black") that record could be very very interesting indeed.

Or maybe it's a one-off recording of long-dead family members. Not sure if they were able to mass-produce records in 1909, and in the early days, a performer would've had to his thing over and over again because records could only be produced in small batches--no such thing as tape or master disks back then.

I'm interested in film scores, spoken word, ambient, early electronica and exotica and novelty records. DrBunsen's House Of Sparks and Noxious Odours http://www.applefritter.com/node/8535 We've got a pinout, and we're not afraid to use it!

I'd be interested in Christmas albums by Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Perry Como, or the London Symphony Orchestra--after all, Christmas is less than two months away! Also, I don't know if it would be too new for the pile, since most of it was 1960s, but if you have any Depeche Mode stuff in there let me know.

I'd be interested too, I just set up my record player yesterday after awhile. /me is listening to Maxwell's Silver Hammer/The Beatles/Abbey Road.

On my record player

Please let us know what you have...

/me plays my Abba LP... Abba - When I Kissed The Teacher...for some reason that brings back memories from grade 12....

Not really...it was the work of my ever-so-crazy "friends" that were in my classes....basically, someone started a rumour...and...well....yeah.

These are the same people who hid a condom in my pencil case back in grade 10, as a joke. Ain't high school fun?

Nice. Nah...the other, um, "people" that i went to HS with just had a very warped sense of humour, thats all.

Still, when I hear that song, all those memories just come flooding back. *is glad HS was over 5 years ago*

Nice. I have a whole bunch of old vinyls that I got from-at that time- a friend of a friend(now she is an actual friend).

I have to make a list of them all at some point and post it online to see if anyone anywhere wants any, and if not give the rest to goodwill or something.(mostly just old polka, some random rock, and some spoken word stuff) If you have any older punk rock in there(The Ramones, The Class, The Sex Pistols, Bad Religion, etc) I'd be interested.

Lol, Polka.
